INTERACT

The BGGS Interact Club is a student arm of the Windsor Rotary Club. Its purposeis to raise awareness of the need for student involvement in service to the wider community. This year we have undertaken a number of fundraising activities which have been most satisfying and enjoyable. Fundraising began in March with the"Spider" drink stall. This was extremely successful and raised over $200. Motivated by an inspiration al talk on Assembly by Major Bruce Robinson from the Salvation Army, over 50 girls volunteered to assist in the annual appeal. Although many girls are reluctant to participate in a doorknock, it is an enlightening and enjoyable experience. On a bitterly cold morning, we completed a heart-warming task and collected over $2000. The generosity of the local community was overwhelming. Prior to the Easter holidays, Interact members donated Easter eggs to the Interact Club. One raffle, two prizes and another $200 was raised. On the last day of second term many girls donated $1.00 each in return for participating in a plain clothes day. This raised a total of $702. Our final fundraising activities for the Year 2000 was to organise the Interact Chocolate

Through schoolfamilies we collected approximately $500 for this most worthy cause. The success of Interact in 2000 has been due to the efforts of all the Board members: Vice President Marguerite Butnoris, Secretary Daisy Ferrier, Treasurer Susan Malone and Directors Amanda Rowell, Kate Dobbrick, Tessa MCLennan and Julie-Anna Smith. Thanks must also be extended to the Windsor Rotary Club representative, Mr Brier Thomas, who has been a wonderful support and guidance. Finally, my thanks go to Mr Bromiley for his hard work and assistance throughout the Year 2000. Iwould like to encourage alllnteract members to continue their support of the Club. Through your efforts it is possible to provide much needed assistance to many people less fortunate than ourselves. Best of luck to the 2001 Board in continuing a wonderful Iy successful BGGS tradition.

ZENITH

The first Zenith Club in Australia, BGGS Zenith Club got off to a great start in Term One with an encouraging Year 8 turnout boosting its attendance level. Zenith is a close-knit public speaking club which encourages students to master their speaking skills in a friendly and relaxed environment, offering a range of speaking roles for students to choose from at each meeting. Topics have ranged from the light-hearted 'Value of Chocolate"to more serious discussions, such as "Commercialism at the Olympics': The structure of the meetings has been altered during the year to place a greater emphasis on impromptu speaking, and has veered away from the more rigid style of business-type meetings. At the beginning of Term Three, ajoint meeting was held with GregoryTerrace Toastmasters which allowed members to practise speaking in a more challenging environment. Zenith is excellent in providing an opportunity to not only enhance students' public speaking skills, but also to interact with different schools and year levels. The year has been a great success so far. Thanks must go to Mrs Murray, Zenith's coordinating teacher, for her tireless effort and motivation throughout the year. The 2000 Committee, particularly Louisa Young (President) and She ham Mendis (Vice-president) would like to encourage the current Zenith members to continue to strive for excellence in their efforts in public speaking. Good luck for next year!
