Mirinda dragged her he ary book-bag down the corridor and into her first class, Maths. Sliding into a seat, she flipped open her exercise book, to an empty page, crisp and fresh. Her maths teacher, Miss Weston, was nowhere to be seen. Miss Weston had been behaving oddly lately ... there was no way to describe it. Her table was now full, all the regulars were there, Taylor and her boyfriend Ryan, James and Mirenda's best buddy Amy. One minute they were all chatting and laughing, then a silence came across the room as Miss Weston swept in. A bizarre smile was spread across her face, next to her books on the table; she had an odd-shaped case, with something bulky in it. All eyes were focused on her, standing at the front, smiling at them all. "Good morning, class" Gleaming green eyes were dancing and sparkling behind thick glasses. She went on ... "Today, I've brought something to show you alll Giggles erupted from Mirenda's table; Amy was bent over, in fits of hysterical giggles. Miss Weston's cold eyes focused on her and her wicked smile spread further across her face as she reached for the mysterious item on the table. Unwrapping it slowly she pulled it out. Everyone looked down the barrel of a black automatic rifle. Rubbing it gently, she picked it up; she stalked over to the door and flicked the lock. Everyone sat in stunned silence, waiting. She whirled around and stalked over to Amy's desk. Amy shrugged back, shaking and shivering, unsure of her fate. The cool metal of the gun was put to her head and she pulled the trigger. A deafening scream could be heard as Amy slouched over and fell to the floor. The rest of the class hid under the desks, to escape the murderous monster. Ryan had a look of sheer terror on his face. Huddling over Amy's dead body, he tried urgently to stop the bleeding. He was the next victim. Standing up, he began to advance toward Miss Weston. The gun went off again. Silence.

CRIMSON

Smoke filled the air as the gun went off, her evil laugh echoing around the classroom. Screams could be heard as the body hit the once-grey carpet with a dullthud. Crimson, red blood gushed from an open wound as the young man let out a hideous cry. Silence. Taylor knelt over the corpse, sticky and red, bawling her eyes out as she covered the body with her woollen school blazer. He was not the first ...... The council bus pulled up, in front of the inner city high school. Teenagers filed off, laden with school bags, sports bags and instruments. Mirenda struggled down the stairs with her shoulder bag, viola case and tennis racquet. She was concentrating intensely on the situation at hand, catching up on all the gossip after the weekend. Breaking away, she moved toward the main doors. Young adolescents swarmed around the school gate, mingling. An uproar went up as the shrill, school bell sounded. They jostled and pushed, streaming in through the front glass doors. Mirenda pushed her way through, bags and all, and into the building. Textbooks spilled out of lockers, then they were slammed shut as the students scampered to the first period classes. Minutes later the corridor, once crammed with bodies was empty. Only the stragglers remained, stillfiddling with combinations on locks.
