NIGHT IN AIR
BEACH
It was a stormy, dark night. Lightning ripped through the sky as thunder crashed amongst the rolling clouds. A dark tree hung low across the window of a young child s bedroom. The small child hid under his covers and attempted to block the sounds that shook him to his bones. A large crack of thunder roared through the house, shaking every single piece of china that was stacked in the cupboards. He screamed and his mother rushed into the room. She yelled at him to get in the basement as she lifted him from his bed. He could feel wind, hear wind, whipping through the sky, as it was coming closer and closer. His mother rushed him in, through the house and through the basement door. There was a sound. He could hear something he had never heard before, a sucking noise. Just like letting water out of a bath, but a thousand times louder. it sounded as if it was right on top of him. Suddenly he saw the roof lift from above his head, as his mother cradled him in the corner of the room. He saw the windows around him smash inwards, like spears of worries he had seen in movies. He saw the sink fly through the air and he saw his mother on the ground, screaming, as he flew high above her.
The sun shone down brightly on the golden beach. She stretched out on her back as the warm air swept across her body and face. The smell of sunscreen lingered in the air. The soothing sound of the crashing waves made her feel at ease with herself. The sound of children laughing and screaming seemed miles away. All that mattered to her was the sun and the ocean.
