THE MIRROR
Smooth, unmarked, the surface glows, Light shifting like the sea, Sparkling as the door does close, With barely suppressed glee. When all is dark, the shadows dance, And slowly figures form, Stretching, yawning from a trance, The room begins to warm. Tiny fairies, blue and gold, Fly around the walls, Those who are not quite as bold, Shout out happy calls. More fairies come and join their friends, Swaying in the night, Rainbow colours, light it bends Around the sparkling sight. They dance, sing and laugh in the dark, As glitter fills the room, Till on the ground a tiny spark Begins to light the gloom. They flutter down, all poise and grace, And on the ground they land, And as small bodies fill the space, One elf strikes up the band. They feast and drink till morning breaks, And then they must depart, Back to their gently shining lakes, Of which they are a part.

They stream in and fall asleep, The room is filled with light, As sunlight makes a graceful leap, And banishes the night.
