who died of Leukaemia in 1977, continues a long tradition of fund-raising in the school. This year has been a busy but very successful year for the Coin- mittee. Our fund-raising started off at a hectic the pace in

in the fight against cancer. By this stage we were well on track for reaching our fund- raising goal for the year. Our activities in Term Four, which included the raffling of a Mary Williams painting that was gen- erously donated by Mr Jack, made sure that all our goals were reached At the end of another suc- cessful year of fund-raising for the Leukaemia Committee, there are many people who must be thanked: the other members of the executive body, Caitlin Marley, Kellie Einerson and Kenie Creed, for theirenthusiastic contributions;

second week of Term One with our 'Valentine's Day Roses'. Thanks to the generos- ity of the Rocklea Flower Mar- kets, we were able to sell indi- vidual long stemmed roses to the girls on Valentine's Day and raise over $600. This event was followed by the Showcase of the Inter house Drama at which the Committee provided a light supper at interval. All the proceeds of the ticket sales went towards our fund-raising efforts

his year has been the most successful yet for indoor climbing, with five students (Emma Prior, Zoe Hildebrand, He Ien Smith, Satah Hoyes and Claudine Webb) conquering Cart's Walk. This twelve metre overhang is one of the most difficult climbs on the wall. However, we are Linsure whethei the main priority is reaching the top or having fun swinging on the rope! These students are now working on masterii\g the challenge of doing a series of five chin-ups at the top of the climb. Mr Greatorex is yet to be beaten in this pursuit, although Lisa Mildwaters (class of '96) is not far behind. Many others also have their sights set on the top of Catt's Walk, and show considerable talent in other areas of expertise, such as falling! Throughout the year climbers have also perfected the art of dodging dangerous objects, such as volleyballs (we knew there was a reason for those fashionable helmets!) Many can also proudly say that they have experienced a rare view of the gym - hanging from the yellow beam just below the ceilino!

The successes on the climbing wall were repeated at the Kangaroo Point cliffs where we were challenged by some of the classic twenty metre climbs, such as "Mission Impossible, " "Anonymous, " and "Exhilarant". To our amazement, we quickly realised that there were no coloured holds to show us the way! However, despite this initial upset, we soon "got the hang of it" and had a wonderful morning climbing Since the beginning of third term, the Year Nines have had the opportunity to experience the thrill of climbing. it is great to see the younger stLidents challenging themselves on the wall, andit was hoped that this would stop some of them from asking "When will we get to climb?" instead they appear to be getting louder and more vociferous! The senior girls have set the standard this year but it will not be too long before the younger girls do their own set of chin-ups at the top of Cart's Walk SARAH HOYES, ZOE HILDEBRAND, EMMA PRIOR, HELEN SMITH
