ENGLAND
1 997 has been another suc- cessful and enjoyable year for England House due to the enthu- siasm and effort of all eagles . Over- whelming participation in all interhouse events throughout the year has once again proven to the other houses that England House is a force to be reckoned with. The
Following swimming was the interhouse drama. The England play placed second overall, achieving a place in the drama "show case" with our legendary performance of Frankenstein starring LindsayGreen, Beth Shulman, Renee Bow and Holly Smith. The success and superiority

of Frankenstein as a miniature pro- duction was due entirely to the talent and tolerance of the England drama captain, Meg Davis. One of the definite highlights of the year for England eagles was the interhouse debating. Directed by Kathy Burke, the England team of Patricia Dowsett, Julie McKay and Natalie Lindwall argued their way beyond the tigers, frogs and phan- toms of other houses to place first overall the competition. The interhouse cross-
fantastic senior body, new Year Eights and the grades in between, have all contributed to England's spirit and victories throughout the year. The year began well with the annual ho.use party, an afternoon of games, war;cries, cake, pizza and ve1y blue England girls . Each grade presented a war cry in the war cry competition and selected a class representative for the Miss
England pageant. After a gruelling competition in- volving eagle worship, singing and dancing, Lindsay Green of year eleven was crowned Miss England of 1997. The af- ternoon was a lot of fun for all involved thanks to the effort of many seniors and the superior Miss Eng- land judging panel of Mr Pincott, Miss Hatton and Mrs Thornquist. The house party was followed closely by the intra-house notice board competition, in which the Year Eights and Tens tied for first place. Various house breakfasts were also held in the first semester by the Year Eights and
countty turned out to be another event in which the England Eagles ex- celled. Blue was a promi- nent colour amongst those who flocked to Vic- toria Park for the 2km race and a number ofgirls achieved top placings in their divisions. Sophie Cameron in Year Eight made England history with her awesome win in the under 13s division and praise must go to Julia Dowsett, Danielle Collins and Alison O'Dwyer for excellent performances in their respective divisions. England girls next stretched, flexed and tum- bled their way into the
Nines and later by the Year Eights and Twelves to encourage friendships between the grades and continue the year 8/ 12 buddy system initiated on orientation day. Throughout the year, the year elevens continued the tradition of the house news letter, with "The Eagle Eye" updating eagles on interhouse events. England established its first home page on the internet as part of the new technology available at school. Thanks go to Sarah Hyne who organised the page for public viewing! The first interhouse event of the year was the interhouse swimming. England spent a day in blue, screaming and compet- ing against the other houses, to be placed sixth overall with many individual successes. Special congratulations go to Amanda McKay of Year Eight and Sonia White of Year Twelve who performed particularly well on the day. interhouse gymnastics competition. On strict diets of no more than five chocolate bars per day, England gymnasts entered the competition confidently. In the artistic arena, Geraldine Wright placed third overall on bars and team mates Jess Hyne, Sally Greenland and Kath Barram all are worthy of honourable mentions for the talent they exhibited in the competition. In the rhythmic team competition, England took a more recreational approach and performed to the themes of Pulp Fiction and Swan Lake in dramatic yet rhythmic routines . Overall England placed fourth in both the rhythmic and artistic competitions . lnterhouse choir, orchestrated by Ruth Schulz the England choir captain, was another great house event. Participating eagles sang Imagine, bringing tears to the eyes of the audience members but unfortunately no winning place. ----------------------200----------------------
