over in a tense match by a strong Moreton Bay College opposition. Alexi Drennan won both the Best Batter and Most Consistent Player Awards for Division 1, scoring an impressive total of 135 runs for the season. Debbie Lauritz displayed outstanding fielding abilities, taking four catches in the final alone . New team members Alex Harris, Jusveer Rahkra, Louise Colley, Farrah Souvannavong and Kate Clarkson were valuable additions to the team's depth and skill. Four team members, Alexi, Emma Brand, Kate Wensley and Maria Lalousis, completed the season among the top ten batters of the division, a true indicator of the team's talent. Calliope Lalousis added a new dimension to the B.G.G.S. bowling attack with her elusive spin bowling.

The competitive season ended with our U16 Bs being beaten in their final and placing a ve1y respectable fourth in the BBi competition. For the first time, a formal dinner at the Chancellor was held to celebrate the Basketball season and to award for the first time the Club Encouragement Award. This trophy was awarded to the Ul 4 team and we were honoured to have our guest speaker, Belinda Morris, Captain of Basketball 1982 & Head Coach in 1984-1987 and 1990-1991, present the trophies .

Grammar was represented prominently in both divisions, with the second eleven also taking part in their final. The seconds were looking to replicate their previously strong performances, having lost only one match in the season, but were defeated by worthy opponents, Brigidine College. Captain Elizabeth Ahern finished in the top five Most Consistent Players and Best Batters of the division, Tegan Davey ranked fourth Best Bowler of Division 2 and consistent all round performances were given by Kylie Gray and Jayde Tilney. Olivia Loughnan also impressed, contributing valuable runs throughout the season. The depth of Grammar Cricket was truly illustrated by the third eleven, finishing in a strong fourth place in North Division 2. Natalie Scales also gained overall awards for both batting and bowling. Theirs was a season of outstanding improvement and consolidation for many of the school's new and continuing players. Katherine Potter and Danielle Basso were just two of the team's impressive bowling line up. With the creation of a fourth B.G.G.S. Cricket team for the coming season, Grammar is looking to improve further on the substantial achievements of the 1997 teams . Club BASKETBALL has continued to raise the profile of this sport at BGGS. This year, six BGGS teams competed in the Brisbane Basketball competition. Each team showed great commitment and enthusiasm throughout the season, leading to considerable improvement from eve1y team. Special mention must go to the under 16B team for their highly commendable performance.

SAILING - what a milestone 1997 was for BGGS! After years of competing in the male dominated sport of teams racing, Girls Grammar finally came of age with a sensational win in the Queensland Championships . A last minute victo1y snatched on the finish line against "Churchie" saw our A-team create history in the waters off Mooloolaba at Easter. It was the first time in Australia that a girls team had won a major state title and the culmination of a competition involving 53 teams from 39 schools across Queens- land. The state finalists included BBC, Yeppoon State High, TSS, Immanuel College Bundaberg, Anglican Grammar School Aand B teams and Flinders Anglican College, Gladstone. Girls Gram- mar had qualified for the States after beating teams from Nudgee, BGS and "Churchie" at the Metropolitan East Trials.
