rnandaMcKay, Belinda Nevell, Hannah Bishop, Carolyn ,hnson, Taryn Hagan, Dianna Henry, Emma Hutchison id EmmaWalters. All these girls achieved first places in their diviclual events, also with several longstanding records being nashed . Morgan Grainger, Amanda McKay, Hannah Bishop, arolyn Johnson, Taryn Hagan and Emma Walters all deserve special mention for achieving records. The depth which exists within this team is noteworthy. Each ear, the entire team, and especially relay teams, are placed nder tremendous pressure. They are the backbone of BGGS wimming. This year, each member of the team coped with this ,ressure with ease and did not crumble. The dominance and lepth of the BGGS Team was exceedingly clear with 13 of the .5 relay teams placing, including a brilliant 7 firsts, 4 seconds 111d 2 thirds. This included a record by Caitlin Orr, Josie Wagstaff, Kimberley Thompson and Megan Kelly, the nembers of the 13 yrs 'B' Freestyle Relay.

this season, but were beaten by St Peters in a tough but very admirable clash, which produced an outstanding level of play from the B Grade members. Their commendable second placing is indicative of the hard work and determination shown by each player this season. The Grade 9 team continued to show vast improvements in their individual game play and teamwork, which was evident in their much deserved fourth place. The Grade 9 players will become welcome additions to the Open teams next year. In their first year at Grammar, and for most, their first year of playing basketball, the Grade 8 team's magnificent achieve- ment of third place holds promise of future successes . Their exciting first season was -aided by an unbreakable team spirit which will continue to enhance each player's performance and enjoyment of basketball. Representative players Isabelle Allen, Hannah Murray and Belinda Deal are to be congratulated on their selection in Metropolitan East Regional teams, with Hannah and Belinda also playing in the U16 Brisbane Metro Team during the year. Sasha Cuffe has also had a successful year, playing in both the Brisbane U18 team, which placed fourth in the State and the South Queensland Ul 7 team, which won the National Champi- onships in January. Congratulations must go to Alison O'Dwyer, Co-Captain of Basketball, whose year of outstanding successes has culmi- nated with a scholarship to attend the Australian Institute of Sport, in the Women's Basketball program, in 1998. She has also been invited by the Brisbane Blazers to tour the USA in November. The combination of Alison's incredible talent, dedication and commitment to her sport will ensure her continued success in the future. The TENNIS season opened with the traditional Meet 'n' Greet - an opportunity for all of the players and supporters to meet coaches and fellow team members. This year, Tennis became a summer sport and was played in first and second term, acknowledging it as a summer sport in Australia and to lighten the load in Third Term. As the season unfolded, it became1obvious that the Gram- mar tennis teams were the teams to beat. C Grade (Genevieve Casey, EmmaM~tiott, Megan O'Connor, Sasha Steinberg, RachelTowie and AnneWoolcock) and DGrade (Josephine Macleod, Emily Moody-Nobbs, Victoria Savage, Cara Spence, Yuko Hamada and Jacelyn Sanderson) retained their premierships for the fourth consecutive year and the Grade 8 team (Sidney Cubasch, Caroline Hendry, Sara Kendall, Angela O'Connor, Kylie Rivers, Annabel Rolley and Tanya Ross) proved to be one of the strongest grade 8 teams Grammar has ever had . With no school obtaining more than 13 games off them, Mrs Robbins was prompted to enter them into the Brisbane SecondarySchool Girls ' Tennis Championships, where they competed successfully until meeting the Moreton Bay College A Grade team consisting of four talented Grade 12 students . The Intraschool Tennis Competition was held in Third term with the annual singles championship and a re-introduced Interhouse Doubles Championships. This was a very popular inclusion and each house nominated 4 teams . The winning

The Swim Team continued to be consistent in all areas with all age group places being at the top. The 13, 16 and 17 years all achieved outstanding results by placing first. The 14 yrs came a close second to St Peters by one point and the 15 yrs were in fourth position. The challenge in 1998 ·is once again to retain the Mollie Gould Cup. In the words of Vince Lombardi , 'pride will make you do things you never thought you could do'. 1997 proved BGGS Swimmers have pride, talent and determination. We look forward to the challenge. In only the second year of the official QGSSSA BASKET- BALL competition, Grammar Basketballers have again proven their skill, enthusiasm and dedication to their sport, with a highly successful season. All four teams played to their opti- mum levels, this year, and due to their outstanding display of teamwork and individual skill, improved each of their rankings to accumulate an overall result of second place. For the first time in both the unofficial and official compe- titions , the Grammar Open A Grade managed to topple arch- rivals St Peters from their premier position, with an incredible one-point victory to take out the premiership flag. The A Grade's unbeaten record this season will set an extremely high precedent for next year's team, who will, no doubt, show the amazing ability and inspirational effort that was displayed by the 1997 A Grade Premiers. The Open B Grade consistently played to a high standard
