Homebush Stadium in December. Sarah Bitomsky (S Griffith) will also compete at the National Championships in the 800m & 1500m after a successful season on the track. Sarah Splatt has aiso been named in the State Team. Following fifteen weeks of intense trainlng and several invitational meets, including one at The Glennie School taking advantage of the new tartan facility, the BGGS athletes were ful1y prepared to compete in the QGSSSA competition at Nudgee College on 18th October. The BGGS Team led from the first event and kept their narrow lead from BSHS throughout the carnival. The fifty strong cheersquad rallied behind the team and kept school spirits high. The team unity on the day was a major factor contributing to our historic win. The results certainly reflect the dedication and commitment of the coaches and athletes as every competi- tor's effofi was fundamental to the triumph of the team. The 13, 74 and 16 years age groups demonstrated this by winning their respective age championships. The final points score for BGGS, 641, was the highest score for the school in the history of the carnival. Hannah Murray produced the only record of the day in the lJyrs Shotput when she eclipsed the existing record by 1 metre. Katie Dorney produced a winning treble in the 100m, 100m Hurdles and the Long Jump and ran the final leg of the winning 16 yrs 'A' Re1ay. The RGGS athletics team went into battle with the words of Trevor Hendy in mind to believe to succeed. A1l the athletes dreamt, they believed, they created and finally after a quafier of a century they succeeded. Following the er-rphoria of the Premiership victory it was difficult for those seventeen athletes selected in the Regional Team to focus on the State Championships at the refurbished ANZ Stadium. For some. this was the first oppofiuniry to run on a tartan track. This large contingent of athletes from BGGS is a reflection of the depth of athletics talent burgeoning at the school,- 'To dream, To create,

As predicted, VOLLEYBALL, like many of our other sports, found the new indoor venue a great bonlrs to skill acquisition. Although only the C Grade proved sr-rccessful winning their premiership, the A and B Grades showed good depth and the ability to learn from their experiences as the season progressed, with both placing second. The volleyball commitment in the school is a year round one, commencing with Regional trials in February. Five players from Girls' Grammar were selected in the Open team to compete for North Independent District. Following this Katherine Davies (Year 11) was selected in the Open Regional Metropolitan East Team. Katherine went on to represent Queensland in the Under 17 women's team at the National Titles held in Melbourne in Ju1y. This representative season is then followed by the QGSSSA fixtures. This, however, is by no means the end of the Grammar Volleyball season. In fourth term, al1 teams competed in the Coca-Cola Schools' Cup Tournament held for the first tirne at Brisbane's new Convention Centre. Once again this year, a team will travel to Canberra in December to participate in the National Schools' Cup Tournament, carrying the sponsor's name of Baker's Delight Cup, and to be held at the Australian Institute of Sport. This competition provides a perfect oppor- tunity to blood new players and to develop new team combl- nations ready for the next year's competition. After 25 years, the BGGS ATHLETICS team has finally achieved the ultimate goal of winning the QGSSSA Athletics Premiershlp. The season started wellwith the annual Interhouse carnival which was held at the Anglican Church Grammar School on Thursday 17th August. Although competing on a grass track, the carnival produced some promising perform- ances as well as being a pleasant day for enthusiastic support- ers. til/oolcock House made a clean sweep of awards taking out the Aggregate Points Trophy, the England Cup for Relays, and the Individual Events Cup and the Bochman Cup. The Medley Relay. Katie Dorney of England and SarahEstwick of Lilley shared the overali Athletics Champion Award for the Interhouse program. Both Katie and Sarah went on to compete at the State Athletics Championships as members of the Metro- politan East Team. The QGSSSA sporting calendar closes with the Grade 8 and 9 SOFTBALL competition held over two school days at South Brisbane Softball Association grounds at Carina. In 1994, our teams performed well, with the 9s placing third and the 8s placing second. This suggests there are capable softballers in the school who have the ability to mature into competent players and we look forward to their commitment in this new Olympic sport.
