A line finale for' the semester was the perfo^nTance of a school 1.10dticiion (Year 12) of the life of Dickens (Under One Hai) o11 TITui'sday 16 June, as well as an evening performance (Violent Delights) by Ensemble I and company, presented by tile BCGS Music Committee. This was a most pleasant ending 10 a \, ciy busy, rewarding and challenging semester in second semester, Mrs Famela Burnard took six months silldy ICave to complete ITer Masters Degree. We 1001< forward 10 we ICOining ITer back in the new year. Thank yo\I to Mrs BLimarcl for all her creative ideas, energy, enthusiasm and rimsic in 111e first semester from all the music students and staff. Mr Me Iville became ftill-time for second semester and we we I- cometl Mrs Allson Trapper I on a part-time basis, teaching classi'o01n music We nave been the beneficiary of many guests 10 class inLISic electives. We welcomed Sarah Hopkins with Harmonic Singing, Stephen Leek, on Composition Technique, Sue Johnson and Listi Young experimenting willT vocal techniqties in 'Wunjo's Blessing', Robert Davidson introducing 20th Centuiy coinposi- lions, BTOnwyn Myers in Balmese dancing, and Dr He Ien Payne, specialist 111 indigenous Australian music and Mr TonT Adeney revisiting the life and Limes of a young Mozart (alias reincar- natcd) in tile stall of second Semester, we also welcomed Ms Emily Cox us conductor of Year 8/9 Choir and Grammar Singers and colltin\ling net role of condtictor of Camerata Singers. Ms Cox's in PIii 11ns I)Gen greatly valued throughout the year, and her cxpci'lisc evident. We also thank Ms 10die Schloss, who has Innst ;IIJly ticcompanied all the choirs at rehearsals and perform- anccs clLii'ing 1994 01, WCClnesday 131uly, we welcomed six staff members and eiglTty nitisic students from Melbourne Girls' Grammar to the School. Tlle girls gave an enjoyable lunchtime concert in the Gehrmann Theatre and then joined with members of our Senior Concert Band for a combined rehearsal Once again, members of our choral program participated in the ANCA Fest '94, whiclT CUIminaied in a massed choir of over 400 voices singing at QPAC at 7.30 pm. on Saturday 301uly. Winners of the Junior Sections of the Instrumental and Vocal Competitions performed for the whole school coinmLinity on Assembly dtiring Term 3 A1 the "Young Artists in Concert" on Wednesday 3 August, the Camerata Singers, conducted by Emily Cox, opened the evening, and the winners of the Gillies Ensemble, the Clarinet Ensemble, performed the piece WITich gave them first placing in the competition. This year, the Wight Medal was awarded to Elizabeth Ahem <9W) and the RT and AE Ieffries BUTSary was awarded to Mary Broughton (12W) Members of Camerata Singers attended a vocal workshop at Brisbane Grammar School on Friday 29 July, taken by Peter Ingrain. On this occasion, the girls joined with the BGS Grammarphones and fifteen students from Caufield Grammar Arts Week provided many unique and entertaining musical visitors to the school. Some of the performers included Vocal Group "Sister Moon", a Balmese Gamelan Ensemble, Brass Razoo, a Steel Band and our very own Stage Band We extend our 11Tanks to the Head of the Creative Arts Faculty, Mr Doriald Pincott, for his extensive research and organisation of this stimulating week of music and arts Our Stage Band also performed a I}alf hour bracket at the Ambiwerra Jazz and Food Festival at SI Aidan's on Sunday 7 August 1994. We welcomed Louisa Breen - QYO National Concerto Competition Finalist - for a Violin Recital on Monday 8 Augtist. She played a very difficult recital program with musicality and superb technical command On Friday 19 August the Advanced String Orchestra per- formed at BGS Great Hall as part of the BGS SITino Festival Several In embers of OUT string department also participated in the combined schools string ensemble, directed by well known string pedagogue, Elizabeth Morgan For the second year in a row, the Friends of Girls' Grammar Dinner has been a wonderftil opportunity for our nlore ad- vanced choristers and musicians to perform to an appreciative audience.
