tions outside of school. The Flute Quartet performed in Assembly and at the Official Opening of the Independent Schools Headquarters in Spring Hill, and along with the String Quartet played at Parliament House at a farewell function for His Excellency The Governor of Queensland, The Hon. Sir Waiter Campbell and Lady Campbell, for "Save The Children Fund". The String Quartet also per- fonned at a Schools' Principals' Dinner. Both groups pre- sented outstanding musical achievements. More Chamber Groups were featured at a special CHAMBER CONCERT on May 15th, where the Gehrmann Theatre provided the perfect venue for the intimacy this style of music making appropriates. The individual "rises to the fore" in Chamber Music, and this convert provided a suitable arena to wit- ness the wonderful level of musical excellence, instrumen- tansts and vocalists have reached in this school and often at a very young age. Individual, along with the necessary communal efforts, were recognised in preparation for the INTERHOUSE CHORAL COMPETITION, held on May 26th. E, rigland House proved too sophisticated and pol- ished, with a beautiful arrangement by Sally Smith (Yr 12) of "Let the Rivers Run". Gibson's "The End was Wrong", Hirschfeld's "Coming of the Cat", 0'Connor's "Turn Against Home", Woolcock's "Lean On Me", Griffith's "Lion Sleeps Toriioht" and Lilley's "Rhythm of Life" all shared great strengths and wari'ant congratulations too. 11 was a valuable experience much appreciated and enjoyed by all. THE JUNIOR MUSIC CONCERT followed on May 29th with a kaleidoscope of youthful talent including 250 of OUT youngest musicians developing valuable musi- cal and social skills from the experience of performing. The concert was shi'ouded with great diversity with Student Art and Year 8 Musical "Journeys" on display along with Philippa West's (Yr 9) display of musical excellence as she performed heI' first Bach Violin Concerto with String Orchestra and Harpsichord continuo. The Yeai. 9 Music Elective's "Rhythmic feast in sight, sound and procession", otherwise known as Batakunda, delighted the audience along with all the other items. Oui' musical future is in fine shape with such displays of achievement from OUT younger musicians' The term ended with further excitement when the Cameraia Singers combined with Brisbane Grammar's Grammarphones to perform a inov- ing medley from "The Phantom of the Opera". After the debut presentation at the BGS Vocal Concert, these coin- bined vocal forces sent both schools' assemblies reeling in full "Phantom" flair

To illuminate the rich and vibrant tapestry of musical experiences, opportunities and cultural enrichment con- tributed by a musical population exceeding half of the school, is to describe the vibrant musical spirit, the pursuit of excellence and the sheer devotion that Ginpowers and motivates both students and staff alike at BGGS. For the BGGS "musos", 1992 has seen a musical balance in motion of dynamic variety, creative experiences, excit- ing and challenging performances, the pursuit of and achieved excellence, but always "Nil Sine Labore" and not without the greatest rewards.

Camerata singers at Miss Ives wedding

Our musical year was launched in TERM ONE on February 4th, by "La Capella" performing "Simple Gifts" at the Year 12 Prefects Induction and later on March 24th, with the String Ensemble, celebrating at the Foundation Day assembly with Benjamin Britten's, "Simple Symphony". The sharing of musical gifts continued on March 27th, at the PROM CONCERT and preceding "Minstrel Gallery". A record audience packed the Auditorium, to witness a wonderful musical event CUImi- nating in a grand perfonmance involving 350 musicians in the finale, "One Voice". Following this, the streamers that flowed capped off the evening with vibrant colour. Further performances in Term One, involved the Flute Quartet pre- senting a guest item at the Quota Club "Student of the Year" function; the Camerata Singers participating in Miss Ive's Wedding Ceremony and again providing a musical farewell at Mrs Hancock's final Assembly, before she departed on study leave. TERM Two saw no decrease in musical activity, coin- mencing with our participation in the BGS musical, "Carrots". Naomi Just perfonmed the principal female role with great elegance, along with an exciting chorus of "orphans". Along with this, the term set off with a variety of our Chamber Groups featuring at special official func-
