ATHENE
The topics which one is advised never to discuss on social occasions - politics, sex and religion - have once again dominated discussion at this year's Athene Club meetings The demands of time and work have resulted in less fre- quent meetings in 1992, but the specti'urn of papers, from the topical to the esoteric, on a range of philosophical, social, and political issues, not only engendered lively dis- cussion, but also developed a broader general knowledge and a greater tolerance of, and respect for, the opinions, lifestyles, and perspectives of others' At hene meetings may well be described as being at the cutting edge, whethei' this relates to papers presented, the ensuing dis- cussion, or the descent upon chocolate cakes at supper! This year 111e Athene Club has been co-ordinated ably by the President, Robert O'SUIlivan, and the Secretary, Me 11nda Taylor. Thanks are also due to all those who pre- sented papers and chaired meetings, and to Mr Brian Short, MTS Robyn Colwill, Mrs Lyn Seckold, and Mr A1an Dale for' their support and involvement
