S. C. A. competition but we are now buildino an international reputation. A1 the end of last year, the 1992 Grammar 1st Xi were foilunate enoLigh to have the opportunity to play an Under 18 side fi'om Hamilton, New Zealand. Despite the fact that we had coin- menced training and that we played the game at our home ground, Victoria Park, the New Zealand girls were just too o00d on the day. 11 was a valuable experience and an inter- esting cultural eXchange. The 1991-1992 season saw Grammar cricket strengthen further with new, keen and talented players joining the teams. The 1st XI despite winning most of their matches, unfortunately were not able to gain enough points IQ earn a place in the finals at the end of the season and were placed third in the competition. The 2nd XI is improving each year and this season, under the capable captaincy of Beth Watson, placed 5th in Division B of the competition. The as does women's crick- competition continues to Improve, at in Queensland and we look to our young players to fui'- ther strengthen the standard. Special mention must be made of Antonia Conomos (Year 9), who became the fii'SI Grammar Girl in our recent history of the sport and the first player in our Q. S. C. A. competition, to take a hat- trick, having two to her name by the of the season. Club HOCKEY at Downey Park continues to provide extra games for our Q. G. S. S. S. A. hockey players and this year, once again, provided a competitive experience foi' more Grammar girls' For the first time, the school entered an U17B team into the BWHAjunior division at Downey Park in the hope of nurturing our young players not catered for in Q. G. S. S. S. A. teams. Althougli the season provided this team with very hard competition, the girls embraced the ideal of participation rather than winning, and used the year as valuable experience. The RHYTHMIC SPORTIVE GYMNASTICS club continues to grow with 130 gymnasts, 9 coaches, 8 judges and 6 student coaches. The season began with a welcome to new parents with the girls displaying their newly devel- oped skills. Sixteen of our girls went on to be named in the State Team: Kimberley Forrest, Kairina Vickei'y, Phoebe Papas, Tania Hobson, Cainin Huntei', Carla Robei'ISOn, Am anda Me Tnn, KITSteen Logan, Rachel Boldery, Helen Gillingham, SIacey Frostick, Allison ManvelI, An it a Hobson, Kym Potter, Brooke Atkinson and Kale Baxter. These girls perfonmed brilliantly at the Classic National Championships with every girl in our club returning with a Gold or Silver medal.

CLUB SPORT Physical activity is regarded as an integral part of the CUT- Ticulum and an important way of dealing with the stresses of modern living. As Grammar is one of the largest schools in the Q. G. S. S. S. A. it is necessary to look for additional competitive experiences for our students. To this end, the school is heavily involved in Brisbane Club competition, frequently made possible by willing parents who shoulder the organisational responsibilities This year saw an increase in our number of sports with the inclusion of Rowing in our sporting calender. The school had been involved in the sport previously, but the Brisbane Schoolgirls' Rowing Association had not been fomned and OUT competitive involvement had been somewhat haphaz- ard. ROWING has had an extremely successful fonmative year at Brisbane Girls' Grammar under the watchful eye of Old Girl, Paula Mackellar, with over seventy girls in the row- ing squad. Training for the squad commenced at the start of second term, at Commercial Rowing Club and CUImi- nated in the "Head of the River" in September. in just a few months, the girls had mastered the basic skills of Tow- ing (and experienced their fair share of blisters) and were ready to put these skills to the test against the more estab- lished rowing schools. The season's competitions consisted of a series of four schoolgirl regattas, followed by the main event of the sea- son, the Brisbane Schoolgirls Head of the River. All of these regattas were held on the Milton Reach of the Brisbane River. Despite being relative newcomers 10 the sport of rowing, the Grammar girls rowed like experts, consistently gaining first, second and third places at each regatta leading up to the Head of the River At the Head of the River, the girls once again displayed their superb rowing skills in gaining the excellent tally of three first places, two second places and two third places. The first win of the afternoon went to the U16 fourth four, consisting of Billie-JO Thornpson, Fablenne Templeman, Sarah Warren and Heidi Pietzner, and coxed by Sarah Heilbronn. The second win went to the U15 fourth four, consisting of Rachel Grierson, Kale Leadbeater, Katie Robinson and Danielle Chisler and coxed by Kylie Thornpson. This crew created Head of the River history by tying for first place with All Hallows. Our third win went to Susan Tanks in the Open Sculls. Susan was undefeated in the Open sculls event throughout the season and gained her Blue in Rowing for Stale Representation. With these excellent results achieved in this the pioneering year of rowing, the future of the sport looks promising. WATERPOLO continues to be a popular and successful sport in the school. BGGS has produced more national representatives than any other school in Australia, a most significant and impressive achievement. This season proved to be another successful one for Grammar Waterpolo players. Six teams were entered in the Brisbane competition with the U14s and the U20s winning their pre- inIerships. The U15s, U16s and U18s reached the semi- finals and the U14Bs showed great enthusiasm in their first year. We continue to be represented at regional and State level and this season's representative players were:
