Swimming season is a rathei. short. yet Intensive one. One of the initial aims at the beginning of the season was to make a concerted effort to improve our standing as a swimming scliool, and. therefore. to limprove our overall performance. To achieve this we requii'ed not only the participation of our competitors, but also suppoi't from the rest of the school 'The support at the swimming this year was sensational. and it was wonderful to see such a large spectator contingent at Chandler which certainly spurred on our team A commendable fourth was gained by our team and this was achieved primarily by the dedication of the girls to training sessions and the support shown by the rest of the school. Although our only winnei' on the day was Michelle Glover in the fourteen years' backstroke, many top four placings were achieved TITe 1990 Grammar Ballgames season was not only reasonably successful. but it was also greatly enjoyed by all. Our improved ball handling skills resulted in many second and third placings o11 the day of the QOS. S. S. A. competition allpswich, but unfortunately the tight control and unbroken concentration exercised by SI Hilda's and IPswich proved a little too much foi' our more fluctuating pel'formances. However, improvement is definitely a sign of success. and our final seventh placing. two better than last year. has undoubtedly shown that we are now heading in the right direction for the future Artistic Gymnastics continues to be one of our main sporting strengths within the school, o11 both the participation and the spectator level. The B gi'ade continued its success. with the Bl team gaining second place. and the B2 tealTi taking the honours.
