OUTSTAN DING IN DIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENTS
The twelve months from September 1988 have seen a number of other B.C.C.S. students achieve outstanding results in a wide variety of academic activities. Cirls' Crammar foreign language students have figured prominently in lists of prize winners. ln the Coethe Verse Speaking Competition which attracted more than 1,500 entrants, Brooke Marsh and Selina Youatt-Pine were placed first in the Year Eight and Year Nine Sections respectively. Sze-Wai Ooi (Senior A) and Nicola Heiser (Senior B) won first prizes in the Japanese Language Speech Contest, as did Katherine Henzell in the Year Eight Division. ln Term lV of 1988 Taueva Caesar won first prize in the Alliance Francaise Concours de Poesie Year Nine Section, while Erica Fryberg was triumphant in the Year Eleven Division. Certificates for Outstanding Performance were awarded to Margot Cowen and Jennifer Stewart-Richardson after they sat for the American Classical League's National Latin Examination. 69,000 students from five countries completed the exarn which involved questions on grammar, mythology, history and derivatives. Erica Fryberg has continued to attract attention in the world of student writers. Her short story, The Muso and the Masses, won the Open Section of the 1988 Q.AT.|.S. Literary Competition. Erica's story is included in the literary section of this magazine. Jennifer Stewart-Richardson won a trip to the national capital as paft of her prize for winning the National Competition for Multicultural Week 1988 with her essay entitled "Sharing Our Future". ln the Esso Australian Schools' Science Competition both lngrid Hadgraft and Sasha Spanswick won State Prizes, an achievement which places them in the top one percent of Year Nine science students in Queensland. All of these girls are to be congratulated on a fine effort.
