TENNNS Although Girls' Crammar tennis players are not jetsetting to play Wimbledon every July, there is latent talent there which may need a few more seasons for expression. Throughout all levels of competition, Q.G.S.S.S.A. tennis has reached a very high standard with most schools boasting at least one state-ranked player. The season began rather badly with rain hampering selection trials. Miss Roden is to be commended for retaining her sanity after such an ordeal. Early in the season we welcomed the opportunity of playing two Victorian schools, namely Melbourne Grammar and the Scots School, Albury. Being prior ro Q.C.S.S.S.A. matches, they provided some stiff pre-season lead-in competition and some rewarding social exchanges. We are indeed fortunate to have the invaluable direction and advice of Mrs Daphne Fancutt and I thank her for her continued support. I would also like to thank Peta Wise and Katie Walsh who coached the Year Eight team and C team respectively, anci all other team members for providing added support throughout the season. Finally, I wish to pay tribute to our Sports Mistress, Miss Roden, whose enthusiasm, dedication and positive attitude have moulded each team into a coherent, motivated unit, and by her warmth and excellenI rapport with all girls she has contributed to making tennis the f un and enjoyable sport it should be.
