Q.G"5.S.5.4" RHVTHMBe GVe4NAST6es Rhythmic Gymnastics requires elegance, flexibility and skill, but without the dedication and teamwork of each of the six team members and two reserves, it could not survive. Near the beginning of the year, thirty-two eager gymnasts were selected by Mrs Papas, coach and choreographer, for the four competition teams - hoop, ball, ribbon and combination (hoop and ball). Once selected, they spent many hours working as a team to Iearn, practise and perfect routines in preparation for the Q.G.S.S.S.A. lnterschool competition. The fellowship between the gymnasts has been terrific and highly commendable. Having balls, hoops or ribbons thrown at them from all angles and at all speeds did not weaken friendships in any way, hrut instead, promoted co-operation and understanding. lt was this spirit, which enabled them to enter the competition knowing that they had the support of every other member of their team - a winning asset in anyone's books. The big event was on Friday the twentieth of May at Brisbane Boys' College. All four teams travelled together on a bus and were "fed" with inspiring, and helpful words f rom Nicole Schoutrop (our assistant coach) as we cheered, sang and were merry, ready to give it our all. After an emotional heart-felt singing of the Dirty Dancing soundtrack in the warm-up rooms, the schools marched on. Crammar support was terrif ic this year, and none of our supporters was disappointed by the excellent standard of competition. The hoop and combination (hoop and ball) teams put in a fantastic performance, both taking the pennant for first place. Our ribbon team did an almost immaculate performance, but were unlucky and did not obtain first place. A commendable second place was obtained by the ball team who should be congratulated for their f ine effort. All in all, it was a great season for lnterschool Rhythmic Gymnastics. Many thanks must go to our two coaches - Mrs Papas and Nicole Schoutrop - for all their time and effort. l'm sure that if the dedication and team work continues as it has been, we will be able to reach even greater heights in the ever-growing sport of Rhythmic Cymnastics.
