THE FUTURE The old oak stump stands solitary, In the sunburnt paddock, Who knows how old it is? Once a majestic tree Who saw the troubled world Go by,

But I see the world, Today, With its talk o( revolutions, Bickering and fighting, Man-made disasters,

Out to destroy the so little beauty, Which is left for others to enjoy. Bombs and hatred Towards neighbouring countries. Poverty, sickness and hopelessness, The result of an insane dream, DESTRUCTION .. . What will be le ft of Our world By 2000? Or will there be such a year? The old stump stands forgotten, No-one knows if i-t has seen, The Past, I'm only glad it isn't standing to see The Future.

Crowing older, But not wiser, Year by year. So unlike the grandfather tree stump, With its hundreds of dark brown age rings,

Marking time, Like wrinkles, Who knows what it has seen?
