ATHLETICS '82 Because of the change in venue and date of this year's Q.G.S.S.S.A. athletics carnival, trainings began in mid March under the keen supervision of our coach, Kym Moss. In preparation for the Q.G.S.S.S.A. competition, which was held on Saturday the 22nd of May at Marist Brothers College, Ashgrove, the team was involved in two preceeding meets in which the girls performances were assessed. The first was our "Odd Distance Meet" which we held at school on Saturday the 8th of May, competing against State High, Somerville House and Clayfield College. It was a good performance by the team and was enjoyed by all. The Interhouse athletics was the second competition which was held at the Brisbane Grammar School's Normanby Oval on May 14th - it, likewise, gave the athletes a chance to display their talents. lnterhouse champions this year were Jenny Stewart and Dimity Winders. Miss Keeley must be thanked for the smooth running of the day, which was a lot of fun. The team's final lead up to the "big day" was a weekend camp in Toowoomba. Here the team competed against the Fairholme girls, which was most beneficial in assessing our preparedness for the following Saturday. The Q.G.S.S.S.A. meet provided keen competition with Brisbane State High School winning with 606 points and B.G.G.S. coming second with 468 points. The Grammar Champion points getter was Dimity Winders who this year received the Trustees Cup. Several girls also competed in the Q.W.A.A.A. Cross Country Championships at Sherwood on Saturday, July the 3rd. They were Nicola Hoey, Sallianne Johnson, Prue Willsford, Margaret Litster and Angela Wardrobe. Our other cross country commitment was the meet in Ipswich. Special thanks must go to our coach, Kym Moss, for the time and effort she gave in preparing us for the season's commitments. Also Malcolm Staniforth and Lindy Roden for their help with the sprinters and relays, Mr Small for his assistance with the Middle Distance events and Mr Bowen for his help with the discus throwers. Thanks also go to Mrs Short and the Physical Education staff, for their great organisation, encouragement and help. Good luck to next year's Captains and Team.
