SWIMMING REPORT Swimming training sessions began again in the week before school resumed and the diehards who attended these sessions were soon made aware that Mr Emery (Mad Max) wasn't going to let the team slip behind in the Q.G.S.S.B.A. competition after last year's magnificent second placing. As the season got into full swing time trials and two pre- Q.G.S.S.A. carnivals, at St. Peters and the Valley pool, highlighted the strength of the team and hopes were high as the girls anticipated Friday, 12th March. The Great Night finally arrived and all the hard work of the long and arduous training sessions paid off with Grammar coming second overall to State High, with a marked improvement on last years points difference. First placings were earned by Sue McCann in the Under 15 years Backstroke, and the Under 16 years B Freestyle Relay. All in all it was a great season and thanks must go to Mr Emery as coach, Megan Jenner who was a very able Vice- Captain, and of course, to all girls who participated. Good luck next season. Janet Gibson Swimming Captain. This year's junior swimming team produced some excellent results at both the pre G.P.S. and G.P.S. meets, with first rate performances by such top swimmers as Sheridan Scriven and Amanda Cooke. We had a scattering of good Grade Eight swimmers with Julia Kienzel and Julie Horgan, who swam very well on the day. The team was rather large, and quite a few of the girls trained with their own private coaches, but the majority opted for the school training. Everyone trained extremely well and the whole team performed very well on the day. Many thanks must go to Mr Emery, Miss Keely and Miss Sinelen, for without their enthusiasm and support, we would not have attained the results we did. Also thanks to the parents and girls who supported us throughout. Lastly, on behalf of the Grade Nines, I would like to wish the Juniors of next year the very best of luck. Lusa Marrs
