1980 School Magazine
S.R.C. REPORT 1980 This year the SRC has seen a marked increase in significance and purpose. The targets that we have set for ourselves have been; to improve communication within the school, act as a liaison between the staff and the students, and also be an active group in the raising of money towards school needs. This year the SRC decided to raise money for the Stamford Memorial Fund. We started the year off by organising a Cloudland Dance in March. This proved to be a very successful evening and I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who attended. All prof its f rom the dance were donated to the Stamford Fund and totalled $800. Thanks also must go to the Father's Group who helped with the supervi- sion of the dance. Around the school environment the SRC has been busy trying to sort out student queries. This has led to various sub-committees being formed to enable us to investigate certain problems throughly, before taking them to higher levels. Some of the things that we have looked into have been; the usage of the gym lockers, the effectiveness of the house system - which f rom our investigations has proved to be working very efficiently. Karen Fay has played an active role as mediator between the sub- groups and myself , and must be thanked for her support and enthusiasm. Due to much concern about student concessions, the SFC has been responsible for the introduction of a for- mal identification card. This card will now be expected in almost all places as a concession and identiJication card. The cards would not have been possible if not Jor Leonie Bousted and her father, who were responsible for the printing of the cards. The SRC also played an active role on School Day, which concluded with the traditional bar-be-cue and film night run by the representatives. Also we played hosts to three of the Stamford children. From all reports, they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thanks to Andrea Day and Michelle Oswin for being wonderful hostesses on the day. Mrs. Lynch, Mr. Bromily, The Executive and the representatives must all be thanked for the tremendous support that they have given me, to make the goals of the SRC become realistic. Also I would like to thank Mrs. Hancock for her enthusiastic support towards the Council. Best wished to the 1981 Executive.
CHESS TEAM REPORT After being absent f rom the Chess Circuit for a number of years, Grammar is once again participating in inter- school competition. Because this was our first year back in, we were placed in the'E'division but this is no reflection on the standard of our play. We play every s:cond Friday night and the team consists of f our members, tw6 of which are permanent, and two who change every fortnight. Considering our lack of experience, I think that we have perf ormed very creditably. vs. B.G.S. - lost 3-1 vs. Somerville House - won 2-1 (1 draw) vs. Gregory Terrace - won on forfeit vs. St Margaret's - drew 2 all vs. Toowong State High - won 2-1 vs. B.G.S. - lost 4-0 vs. Somerville House - lost 3-1 vs. Gregory Terrace - won 3-1 vs. St Margaret's vs. Toowong State High Our thanks to Mr Stuart for helping and supporting us
