INTERACT REPORT 1980 Again this year interact chose to concentrate on general community service rather than putting our efforts into fund raising ventures. Our year actually began in Decernber 1979 when once again, in conjunction with the B.G.S. interact club, we made a visit to the Royal Brisbane Children's Hospital to distribute some small Chrtstmas presents and sweets. 1980 itself was begun with much enthusiasm by the girls of the club, and we welcomed our new staff member Mrs. Sharma, who has throughout the year proved to be an invaluable asset to the club. Nootime was wasted in organising an Easter Party held at Montrose late in March. We also prepared to farewell our Japanese ex- change student, Hitomi. Her stay in Brisbane no doubt extended our knowledge of her beautiful country. Once again we helped with the S.C.F. door knock appeal, although unfortunately other varled commitments prevented us from offering our services to other such appeals. During the second term of this year the club remained fairly quiet on the surface, but many days were spent discussing the club's organisation and future. it was then decided to put more emphasis on the three areas of community, international and school service rather than the club as a whole. Although membership was down slightly, enthusiasm was never lacking. 42
This iast term promises to be one full of activity. Already two days have been spent at the Royal Brisbane Children's Hospital combining hard work and a lot of fun into the task of painting the playground there. A wake-a- thon is also planned for late October, with the proceeds going to buy blankets for underprivileged people in some third world countries. The girls are also planning to take advantage of the early Friday afternoons to wash the teachers'cars. This combined with other activities including a few raff les and hopefully a theatre evening are planned to raise money for the purchase of a musical instrument for the school Concert Band. Regular visits to the geriatric section of the Princess Alexandra Hospital continued again this year, and our thanks must go to Miss Greet and Mr. Logan for their kind 'chauffering'. This year has been a particularly busy one in manv areas other than interact, and I would like to convey my thanks to the club's members for their continued support during 1980, and wish the younger girls success in the years to come. The club this year has been very fortunate again in having the support of Mr. Logan, our local Rotarian. and the club would iike to thank Mrs. Sharma and Mr. Logan for their help during the year, and Mrs. Hancock
for her continued support. Susan Wright (President).
