THE GERMAN FOLKLORE GROUP The group has had a very active year. We were sad to lose Melissa and Katrina Bochner, who now live in Adelaide. We welcome grade eight students as new members. During the year many performances were given: in 1g79, at St. Aidan's Flower Show, at the School Day of B.G.G.S. and at the Octoberfest in Thornlands, where the girls danced for an audience of 4,000. ln 1980 the girls danced at St. Paul's school in Bald Hills, for their Mardi Gras dance. On March f irst, they gave a demonstration at the seminar for language teachers, at the Bardon Professional Development Centre, and on It/arch fifteenth the group went to Toowoomba to give a performance at the Toowoomba Education Centre. On April twentieth they visited the Rosemount Hospital for War Veterans, and entertained the veterans with their dances. ln order to improve the costume, funds were needed, and a successful raffle of a "Knusperhauschen" raised $50 for the group. On July twelfth they entertained the visitors of the Gap State High School Fete - a very busy programme lies ahead. On October third, a bracket of dances will be presented on the poetry evening of the German Department of the University of Queensland, and four more performances will be given this year. We are grateful to Miss Sandra McGeechau for giving up her time to teach the girls, and to Wendy Biggs (President), and to Kathy Redman (Vice- President) for their enthusiastic support.
