SWIl1fifVIgFJG REPORT March the 1Oth was the day the Grammar Swimming Team showed the other G.P.S. schools what a litfle determination and depth of talent can do. Coming second to a State High team that was spangled with well- known swimmers, our team added consistently to our score with many 3rd, 4th and 5th places. Louise Paetzholdt's talent showed once again as she won the 15 years 50m breaststroke in 37.j secs. Kay Bowen was our only other individual winner, clocking 30.2 secs. in the 17 years'B'grade 50m freestyle - congratulations. Grammar as usual dominated the freestyle relay events, winning five of the ten events and finishing 2nd or 3rd in the others. The t6B (Nicky Hughes, Sue Ferguson, Cathy Rees, Leoni Boustead) and the 178 (Fiona Scott, Robyn Gordon-Brown, Liz pie and Katie Shannon) freestyle relay teams won their way into the record books by winning their respective events which are both new to the programme. The 17A relay team (Kay Bowen, Jenny Rose, Helen Price and Jane Henderson) broke the exisiting record held by last year's 17A relay team by 0.17 secs, lowering it to 2 min. 4.53 secs. Both the Junior Brockway Cup relay of Louise Paetzholdt, Angela Wardrobe, Sally O'Carroll and Jenny Battersby and the Senior Brockway Cup relay of Helen Price, Jenny Rose, Kay Bowen and Amanda Leeson, finished in third position. Although State High were superior in the pool we outranked them in voice. The number of supporters pre- sent was felt through both the cramped conditions of the stands and through the volume of noise - thank you for your support and wonderful spirit. Mr. Emery and Mrs. Lathouras deserve special thanks for the effort and time they devoted to training and organisation of the team. I wish Mandy Leeson and the rest of the team the best of luck next year and once again congratulations to this year's team. Jenny Rose, 12D.
