WATER POLO REPORT The "1979-1980 Water Polo season is again off to a f lying start. The interest in participating in the weekend fixtures is never-enciing with our school club being the largest in the competition. We again have record numbers and this year we are fielding three U14 teams, four U16 teams, three Ul B teams and an "A" and a "8" Open Grade with the possibility of introducing another B Grade team. We now have quite a few old girls in the club, but also have a lot of new blood coming through. (Ed's Note: I hope not literallyl) We should manage to have some of our U16's and UlB's touring with the U19 Women's team to New Zealand next January. This year was a big step up for junior women's water polo in that we had the first ever official UlB Q'ld Girl's competition. The national finals were held in May in Melbourne and Grammar was good enough to constitute half of the Q'ld team. Mr. Bob Wilson was coach and Debbie Handley was manageress. The team was very successful and managed to bring home the gold medal. The girls from B.G.G.S. club were Sue Gordon, Anne Martin, Linda Sanders, Julie Seale, Jenni Morton, Melissa Lihou (all old girls) and Mandy Leeson. Unfor- tunately, I was forced to pull out. Another trip well stock- ed with the B.G.G.S. club was the Q'ld Open Women's trip to Perth in February. The team was not quite as suc- cessful but managed to win the bronze medal. The team were Mandy Leeson, Jacky Thomas, Linda Sanders, Anne Martin and Sue Gordon. This was also coached by Bob Wilson, the B.G.G.S. coach. Unfortunately he retired, but left the job in the capable hands of Mr. Small, Mr. Burns and Sue Gordon. Once again many thanks must go to the committee members for their greatly appreciated help and also to the coaches, the parents and last but nol least, the
Grammar girls. Jacky Thomas.
