1973 School Magazine

The next morning after breakfast we had a talk by Miss Shaw. She told us about the School and the former Headmistresses. After the talk we asked questions. Iater on in the day Mrs. Salzman came up with some active games to play. We played these until about lunch. After lunch we had a choice of two hikes. They were up the mountain or along'the creek. Most of us went up the mountain. Only a few reached the top- After the hike we were lucky enough to have the canteen opened. After all our money was spent we had a bar-be-que tea. Later on in the night we had the rest of the filp and a Fancy Dress Ball. The prizes for the best dress were pennants with Cunning- ham's Gap on them. These were donated by Miss Shaw" Some of the things people dressed up as were Jake the Peg, Back to Front, Sadie, and many more. The nexi morning Mrs. Lynch led a discussion on school life and school work and we had to fill out a questionnaire. After the talk we got ready to go home, had lunch, finished tidying up and waited for the buses to come. We arrived back at school about 3.30 on Wednesday afternoon. We think the camp was enjoyed by everyone and was a great success, M. Jardine and J. Clark (2A) FOURT}X FORM CAMI From the 2nd-5th July, the fourth formers went on a camp "with a difference!" The camp took place at "Camp Warawee" Petrie, and the theme was self-discovery. Many activities were arranged for us ranging from climbing under road grids to fleeing on a wild horse, as well as canoeing, orienteering, drama, trampolining, primitive art, fencing and raftbuilding. We really enjoyedourselves - anddiscovered all those unknown muscles! During the day we had the pleasure of guest speakers. Mrs. Fischer, whose enthusiasm and know- ledge captured the attention of most girls, spoke on

Drama ActivitY. today's youth and the problems which they have to overcome. Mrs. I-ynch talked about the gap between 4th and 5th form, and Lloyd Nickson informed us of some aspects of modern theatre, followed by a most enjoyable skit. Night activities ranged from finding a black bra for the scavenger hunt to hunting for the teachers in amorigst the bushes - most of us came back looking deathly white, but screaming our lungs out! ! The teachers on the camp were discovered to be human after all, even though they possess some mighty strange characteristics! Miss Fischer, Mrs. Tankey, Miss Paterson and Mrs. Kugelman left after one night - they couldn't stand it any longer! The permanent staff were Mrs. Salzman (better known as Big Bird), Mrs. Barrow (Skinny), Miss Harvey (Squirt), Miss Vernon (Ugly) cause she killed a Bunyip, and Mrs. Torney who acted as matron. Big Bird and Mrs. Barrow showed off their small amount of athletic ability by bravelywhizzing down the flying fox much Io the amazement of the girls at the other end! Miss

Harvey did her bit by rounding up reluctant girls to go to lectures and even went to the extent of pulling them out of cupboards. The food kept us just outside the bounds of malnutrition, but one night we had a luxury - roast and apple crumble! Stacks of bread wor.rld be placed on each table and half way through the meal there would be a call for "More bread please." Overall, the camp was enjoyed by students and staff and we are all grateful to the staff for organising such an enjoyable four days. Boug 4D )\ r ,*J f
