I cried eoch night I wondered l|hy ! - I talked, talked to you. But, You; - You kept yourself from me And then one day - I- I was tired of fighting fffiting for you. yet * agoinst you. Gave Up! I told you, And I don't really know whtt happened, But, you woke up. Started to fight - And the sun came out The iver subsided And you reached out your hand scross that river I- I knew then that I must fight * for you and with you.
"Reflections" on HIROSHIMA.
The whole ciry seemed under the spell of a dread- ful,'freezing, paralyzing panic that quickly deadened into a desth-like, hopeless fear, mingled with a complete loss of faith or interest in human kind and the bltnk future. The women were moaning and shrieking hysteric- ally, eyes shining, and bloodied fingers clawing craztly at the rubble. It seemed, to their terror-choked minds, that the stones cloaked bones of all they had ever loved, and they refused to believe them dead. So they continued, wailing and bleeding, rnindless, as broken-hearted and desperate women have been in all ages, scratching at the earth that had tumbled shut. The clack had stopped, was tipped, had died, was cremated tn a grey, grey mushroom cloud. Time has stopped and we are wound down, pinned beneath the trap of a drunken, doomed ticking. Plesse ease the gley know, gradually, now, so we nwy ooze under the soft, stony bhnket, to sleep, safe frorcthe eggs of the new killer moth. Let us not see them hatch, see them catch and make moligrwnt our children, and our devastated land. Pam van de Hoef 68 4! 4{
Our fWers touched - just And then together firmly And the river dies Killed by drought And we stood - stood together again. Maybe this time Forever!
