TITE DEBATING TEAMS
b.loti,g C[il..Nou, The Debating Club this year has had a larger membership than ever before. It appears that many girls are reallzing the value and enjoyment there is, not only in this activity, but in meeting others also similarly inclinced. It is particularly pleasing to see the great number of second formers who have joined the club this year. A1l girls who wished to join school teams this year were given the opportunity to do so and although this has meant a great deal of extra orgarizing. I think all girls have appreciated this opportunity both to represent theil school and to learn the techniques of debating. Instead of the usual "Knock-Out" Inter- house Debating competition, this year we used the "Round Robin" method. This method demands a great deal of time on the part of both debaters and organizers, however this time has been well spent for these results are far more accurate than those rendered by a "Knock-out" Competition. Our congratulations go to the Apex Debating team-Lynn Robinson, Christine Parnell and Jenny Peath-who won the Apex Debating Competition, their final topic being "That there should be bread for all before there is cake for any". We are also very proud of the fact that Christine Parnell was selected as a member of the Queensland Debating Team which won the National Finals in Adelaide in July. Congratulations to all teams who have shown that the Brisbane Girls' Grammar School had certainly kept up debating standard and especially to the three Junior A teams al present competing in the Queensland Debating Union Quarter-Finals.
I take this opportunity to thank Miss Neil, Mrs. Blumson and Mrs. Edwar.{s for their support and assistance. Our thanks also go to Mrs. Palmer who never failed to step in when most needing. Thank-you most of all to the Club Secretaries-Christine Parnell, Lynn Robinson and Valerie Brownlie (now in America on an American Field Scholarship) who have guided, cajoled, sympathized and advised both the debators and me! Jenny Reath President of The Debating Club S.C,-/U" 'Notu', tg72 The Student Christian Movement has had rather a quiet year, although the activities which were held proved to be very successful. So I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped in this field, and I would especially like to thank Miss Shaw and Mrs. Chowdhury for their very welcome help and encouragement. One form of meeting which proved to be very interesting for everyone was the panel of teachers. The teachers kindly gave their opinions and answered questions, put forward by the girls, on such topics as "Women's Liberation in regard to "The Female Eunuch' ", "Abortion", and "trs Marriage Outdated!"
