S*e"*€*eu*S *ry-fes The swimming season started off eatly this year with ouf first competition at St. Hilda's, So,rthport. And, although we had quite a bit of trainiig ahead of us, this provided us with goo4 racing experience and also ihe chance to meet and mix *itft members of other school teams. This yeaf 's Inter-house Carnival was an exciting duy fot all. tWoolcock carried away tlr" Lilley tttt.ihouse C,tp with Griffith winning the Burrell C,tp ( for relays ) and \Woolcock the Lieu- tenant-Colonel Plant Cup. The School Swimming Cup and Dr. Lockhart-Gibson Cnp were won bV Deborah Handley. A new system has been inmoduced in the Inter-school Carnival whereby the heats afe held in the morning at St. Margafet's school pool, and the finals in the afternoon at Valley Pool. Although we came sixth, we have the distinction that every swimmer in the team qualified for the finals. \7e really grumbled about having to dive into icy water so early every morning, but all of us now rcalae how much 'we owe to Mrs. Salzman for the time and effort she took in main- ing us; and, we expfess our thanks to the parents for all their kind co-operation.
