Competition began early this year with a meet at St. Margaret's school pool. The com- petition was strong, and tended to shovr us hovr much extra training we still had to do. \7e also had an enjoyable aftetnoon at All Hallow's school pool, which sorted out the team completely. Our grateful thanks go to those schools for their hospitality and for providing much fine competition. The Inter-house Catnival proved to be an exciting and successful day {or both spectators and competitors, with England narrowly carrying away the Lilley Inter-house Cup. \7oolcock col- lected the Bunell Cup and England, the Lieuten- ant-Colonel Plant Cup. Deborah Handley won the School Championship and Deborah Handley and Megan Thomas shared the School Swimming Cup. The Dr. Lockhart Gibson Memorial Prize was as in previous years, held before the actual
carnival and was won by Deborah Handley. \X/hen the Inter-school Carnival {inally came all schools were hoping for top places. Although we came sixth, every girl, either strong or weak, swam to her utmost and was spurred on by the spirited team. Our congratulations go to Brisbane State High School for their fine performance. Although we grumbled early in the morning down at the pool, during raining; when we look back we realise how much we really ovre to the sports mistresses, Miss Hattorr and Mrs. Salzman. The season vras ended by a happy and re- laxing day at the beach. Our thanks to Mrs. Marriott for her hard work and hospitality for entertaining us at her home. Thanks must go also to every single parent who had a girl in the team - without them there vrould not be a team. Good luck for the future Grammar swim- ming team.
