ARTS CAPTAINS: YEAR IN REVIEW
T he Arts in 2022 was driven by our motto, Create Beauty in the Blue . Following the COVID-19 pandemic, we learned a valuable lesson in not taking for granted the sea of opportunities Grammar provides us in the Arts. We set out to echo this sentiment in our motto and develop a phrase that would resonate deeply with the students of BGGS. As such, we wanted to encourage students to find time to appreciate the true value of Grammar Arts, whether that be by expressing their inner creative selves, or supporting their Grammar sisters in their own artsy endeavours. Across the year, we advocated for a variety of art-related events, ranging from Drama Productions to Art Walks, and even school-wide events such as Interhouse Choir Competition. For our personal highlight of the year, Arts Fest, we selected the theme ‘Once in a Blue Moon’ as it further expressed our desire for everyone to take full advantage of the wealth of opportunities gifted to us in the Arts during our time in the royal blue, and we truly believe we achieved this during 2022. Ultimately, we are both so incredibly proud of the girls and their overwhelming display of support and gratitude and cannot be more thankful to the students for embodying the true spirit of the Grammar sisterhood in the Arts. None of this would have been made possible without the help of the Art Department and of course, the Arts Council. We are also extremely grateful for the guidance and support of Mr Pennay, who not only listened to us and valued our ideas, but encouraged us to be our best selves as leaders. We have had so much fun this year as your Arts Captains, and we hope to leave a legacy in which students appreciate the Arts for all that they are, and enjoy creating beauty in the blue.
