CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES

ANIME

A nime Club, or Animaniacs, is a cultural club that watches Anime and celebrates other aspects of Manga, Cosplay and Asian culture. Each term, girls vote and decide on what to watch. This year, we enjoyed the series My Hero Academia , which is about a boy’s struggle to become a superhero, and Ouran High School Host Club , a comedy on school life. The Animaniacs are a small group and welcome anyone, regardless of their knowledge of Anime. We love to draw and create our own artworks and costumes inspired by our favourite Anime. T his year marked the re-launch of an exciting club at BGGS— Apollo Book Club. Sort of a cousin of Libellum and aimed at Senior girls, the club meets fortnightly to discuss a novel. One of the main goals of Apollo is to read and engage with significant novels that are not part of the syllabus. This can range from classics like The Great Gatsby (the first book we explored), to more modern masterpieces such as The Color Purple by Alice Walker. Facilitated by English Teacher, Dr Madill (whose commitment to the club is incredibly valued), girls are encouraged to suggest novels they would like to read and discuss. We then debate the different views presented by each novel, and how they relate to contemporary ideas. As we move into 2021, Apollo looks forward to welcoming new members and considering important topics through literature. Stephanie Burgess (11E) APOLLO CLUB

ART WALKS

A rt Walks began in March this year with a successful visit to the Water exhibition at QAGOMA. The exhibition was an immersive experience for everyone who attended and the artwork on display sparked lots of stimulating discussion among the group. In Term 2 Art Walks went digital with a virtual tour of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and then a spotlight on the work of American artist Edward Hopper from a variety of Museums in America. Both were enlightening experiences and showcased how the digital platform can place us in front of art that would be difficult to see in real time. Thank you all who have attended and supported the Art Walks

Program this year. Mr Donal Pincott HEAD OF VISUAL ART
