YEAR 11 PHYSICAL EDUCATION

D espite the disruptions of COVID-19, we were fortunate enough to have had a seamless transition into online learning. For a subject like Physical Education, which encompasses practical and theoretical work, it certainly proved to be challenging to adapt to this change in learning. Besides the current pandemic, commencing our senior studies this year proved to provide more challenges than expected. We learned to manage our time wisely, covering extremely different—yet interesting—topics within a short time period, and adapt to a wide range of assessment types (e.g. multimodal, assignment, and an exam changed to a 48-hour assignment during home learning). However, we were all lucky to have such amazing Senior Physical Education teachers—Mr McGarry and Mr Fogarty— who provided support and alleviated and ensured we were well prepared to complete assessment.

Among all senior students, it was clear that our equity assignment in Term 2 and our aerobics assessment in Term 1 were by far our favourite assessments. All senior physical education students could easily relate to the equity assessment, as it considered the fairness of our Interhouse carnivals. We have really enjoyed the flexibility of Senior Physical Education and the ability to express our opinions on contentious topics. We highly recommend Senior Physical Education to any girls considering studying the subject—it has been a highlight of our Year 11 studies. Although the year provided some obstacles, through the fascinating assessment and high quality of teaching, all seniors thoroughly enjoyed their year, and cannot wait for Senior Physical Education in Year 12. YEAR 12 PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Y ear 12 Physical Education is an exciting subject that allows us to learn inside and outside of the classroom. We have been provided with the knowledge of how physical performance aspects can be closely related and completed alongside the theoretical aspects of the sport. We enjoyed participating in our practical lessons where we learned the skills for sports such as basketball and athletics. We also enjoyed creating and following a training program with the aim to improve our performance in a 1500m running event. While our school training was disrupted due to remote learning we were able to continue to work towards the goal of a final 1500m event as well as learning and having fun in our Zoom lessons. The lessons that we have learned during our senior PE journey have prepared us to not only excel in our external exams, but also provide us with life-long skills and knowledge that we can apply to future physical activities and our general health. We have decided to leave you with the thought that although some non-Phys Ed students might say that PE stands for Public Embarrassment, after completing Year 12 PE we know that PE, in fact, stands for Particularly Enjoyable. We’ll miss it! Gia Cayas (12G), Claudia Scott (12W) and Sophie Watson (12E)
