ROCK CLIMBING
T his year the rock climbing wall had particularly eager for the challenge. By their sixth afternoon several groups of climbers made it up our most difficult wall, ‘Catt’s Walk’, demonstrating the BGGS qualities of perseverance and strength. Thank you to the wonderful climbing instructors Ms Becky, Ms Varghese, Ms Hindman, and Mr Lanning; we appreciate your patience and help with our belaying. A special thanks also to Mr Greatorex, without whom Rock Climbing at BGGS would not be possible. Lauren Spiller (11B) new routes and the climbers loved the different fluoro holds—the Year 7s were
ROWING
T he 2020 Rowing season, while it was short and sweet, brought out the best in our BGGS rowers. Girls trained hard and raced even harder. Incredible dedication and great improvement was displayed by each girl and this was highlighted by our incredible results achieved at Head of the River. This season’s results are some of the finest in BGGS Rowing history. BGGS finished third overall in the competition and our 1st VIII and 2nd VIII both placed first in their events. The historic wins mark the first time the School has won these races, with rowers achieving 10 podium finishes overall—seven gold, two silver and one bronze. Rowing training and racing requires grit, focus, dedication to your crew and a willingness to push yourself outside of your comfort zone. As Rowing Captains we could not be more proud to have lead such a great group of dedicated girls.
This year’s win was the culmination of a very successful season for our rowers and demonstrated the depth of the School’s rowing squad, cultivated through the years by former Rowing Coordinator, Mrs Callie, current Coordinator, Mr Wruck, and the entire coaching staff. During our five years as BGGS rowers we have learned so many valuable lessons and created life-long friendships. Chelsea Ashby (12W) and Eloise Young (12R) CAPTAINS
