YEAR 11 ~EADERSHIP CAMP, 1984 On Tuesday, December the 4th , 1984, four staff members and 164 Year 11 students, boarded the buses for Beaconsfield Street, Margate. The main aim of the camp was to provide a situation where students would discuss and develop leadership issues relevant to their following year as senior students of the school. Throughout the camp, we listened to numerous, interesting and valuable speeches from our visiting guests. A few topics were very controversial , therefore, they led to many interesting discussions and debates. Our recreational activities, under the direction of Mrs Harvey-Short and the recreation committee, were always entertaining, firstly consisting of us "Livvy Lovelies" participating in an exhausting session of "Let's Get Physical " !! Following this energetic activity was an Olympic Games Cryptic Crossword Treasure Hunt, in which several people seemed to get rather lost. On Tuesday night, we were waiting ever so patiently, for the start of our film "The Blues Brothers". However, there was one sli ght problem - there just happened to be no film projector but Mr Madden came to our rescue and drove back to Grammar to find one. Wednesday was also full of surprises and surely an unforgettable day. The recreation consisted of our "B.G.G.S. Olympics", where t he theme was Australiana. Eight groups participated and were al l dressed appropr iate ly for their chosen theme. The groups ranged from the "H ippies" to the "Harrys" and the costumes were really original.
As a conclusion to our leadership camp, each group was supposed to submit an item for the camp concert, held that night. It was definitely a jam-packed night of top class performers from "Abba in Concert" to " Perfect Match" ; where Mr Dale chose Cathy Buckham as his perfect match, Mrs Harvey-Short chose Mr Madden as her perfect match!! The final act was the one we were all waiting for, as it was the staff's turn to reveal their hidden talents. The 1985 B.G.G.S. Claytons Formal had begun as the " Blues Brothers" music blared out. Mr Madden was a real groover!! I'm sure we will never forget the unveiling ceremony of our new indestructable Grammar hats!! It was a fun camp and we would lik~ to thank Mrs Harvey- Short, Mrs Lynch, Mr Dale and Mr Madden for making it a success.
