The French Cultural Group continued this year under the supervision of Mrs O 'Shea (except when she deserted us to go on the Eurotour). Our first appearance was at the B.G.G.S. Fashion Parade, where we can-canned as part of the French Section. This was a quite successful night, once we had learnt to negotiate the problems of dancing on a narrow catwalk. The next two performances were for Bastille Day Uuly 14th) celebrations. On the Friday night, due to a lack of communication and a last-minute reshuffle, we were followed, not preceded , by an excellent spoof of the can- can, presented by Marist Brothers. To top it off, one of our members tore a muscle while dancing and was incapacitated for a number of weeks- all-in-all , an ordreal not to be repeated.
On Saturday night, we performed for the French-Australia Association at the South Leagues Club. The audience was highly appreciative, which was particularly encouraging for our Provincial dancers. Afterwards we were treated to a meal and joined in the fun, making the evening a complete success. Our last appearance was at the Friary Fayre held at the Brookfield Friary. The weather was splendid and the crowd large, and a good day was had by all. We would like to extend our thanks to the Media Department for letting us practise in the mornings and also for lending us the audio equipment for performances. Thanks particularly to the Hemphill family, who organise our performances, look after our costumes, and are essential to the smooth running of the French Cultural Group.
