2011 School Magazine

Vollegboii When the 2011 Volleyball season at Brisbane Girls Grammar School commenced in Term 11 we welcomed back many of our coaches and players from previous years, along with two new coaches, and many more new players. There were so many new players we were able to form two Year 8 teams, full of energetic and excited girls ready to learn volleyball At the beginning of the year, the Head Girls announced the motto for 2011, "Feel the G-Force, Be the G-Force, Embrace the Sisterhood". The G-force to me is the enthusiasm and passion that 15 so prominent in the School. The girls have most certainly embraced the sister hood, with many different bonds being formed between teams and grades. Girls Grammar is viewed by many other QGSSSA schools as "the volleyball powerhouse" with many of our teams remaining undefeated for consecutive years, a reputation our girls are not overconfident about but have respected and continued to develop individually and as teams Brisbane Girls Grammar has performed exceptionally throughout the 2011 season, with four teams (Open, Senior A, Year 10 and Year 9) winning premierships in their divisions. Each premiership team suffered only one loss throughout a nine round competition This season has been one of the most successful for BGGS Volleyball. Congratulations to the Year 81 team, who placed a very convincing second. Congratulations to all girls, coaches and parents on another wonderful Volleyball season

Swete Kelly was named in the 1994 born Australian squad toured Italy, Greece and Hungary. Towards the end of the season, thirteen out of a total fifteen of our teams were ranked in the top four in their QGSSSA divisions. Particular congratulations must go to the 13A team, undefeated premiers In their first year at the School. We are not sure that the capes worn by the 13As for their finals will become part of the uniform Next on the agenda was the Under 14 State competition at the Gold Coast. The 14A team proved invincible going through the tournament as the undefeated winners. Thirteen girls were selected in state squads following this great win. in the Christmas holidays, Grammar entered the Under 18 State Championships, defeating arch-rivals All Hallows' for the bronze medal. Again, Grammar was well represented in the state selections. in April, eight Grammar girls participated in the Queensland Schoolgirls Championships as part of the Metropolitan North team This season would not have been such a success if it was not for our trusty co- coordinator, Mrs Moore. She has made a huge contribution to the Water Polo community and we wish her all the best in her future endeavours
