Badminton Badminton this year saw the largest number of players since our wonderful sport began in 2007. The current Year 12 players are the first to play from Year 8 through to their final year. The season began in April with preliminary Friday training sessions at the Sports Centre, the girls persevering through much loved footwork and practice games. At these training sessions, under the guidance of coaches Leona Chun (2008), Mitchell Wheller and Eric Chan, girls were encouraged to come and have a taste of what competitive Badminton was like. By the beginning of Term 111, Badminton training intensified with an additional session and in Term IV it was full-on. The annual QGSSSA Badminton Competition, as in previous years, was held at IPswich Girls Grammar School and Centenary State High School in Term IV. However, with the popularity increasing, venues at Brisbane and Bremer State High Schools were also required. Spread over two Saturdays, competitors played as doubles competing in nine games over the course of just a few hours, Despite facing some tough opponents, all girls maintained strong and determined Grammar spirit and supported each other to the very end

Basketbol As Basketball captains we have been elated to see BGGS girls embody the values of team spirit, friendship and camaraderie. Some thrilling victories ultimately CUIminated in several near top-of-the-table finishes and one Premiership, won by the 9B team. The Year 85, as the youngest members of the Girls Grammar basketball family, displayed remarkable aptitude for basketball in their first season. The Open team played in several nail-biters, most especially against ipswich Girls Grammar School and Moreton Bay College. it was wonderful to see the younger girls in the royal blue, clustered along the sideline, cheering in full voice. Similarly, the Senior A team came antalisingly close to a premiership. Although the Open team did not equal the success of the first and second placing of the previous two years, we enjoyed the marked improvement of all players and the growing confidence of the team's youngest Year I O players was enough to label the season a great success. Off the court, the unity of the Girls Grammar basketballers was evident. Long bus trips out to IPswich or down to Southport were shortened by the lively atmosphere and occasional sing-along. WillI Smith and Mary-Lou Currie, past students and veteran coaches at Girls Grammar remain invaluable assets to BGGS basketball; their remarkable skill and extensive knowledge of the game doing wonders for the fledgling sportswomen in their teams

Cricket To welcome in the season we had rain, and a lot of it, with it raining almost every afternoon training session Not wanting this to get in the way of a good cricket season, our enthusiastic coaches and players simply packed their kitbags and headed to the indoor sports centre at Kedron. The twenty-four player squad benefited greatly from the Indoor training facilities and also found bouncing off the nets to be quite amusing. The players' antics were always highly entertaining. After taking a wicket during a game a player would come up with a signature move to celebrate, such as 'The Sprinkler' which was repeated throughout the season and made a lasting impression on the Open team Sharing afternoon tea, sun cream, and getting bruised legs from stray cricket balls all made our teams stronger. By the end of the season, we could bat further, bowl harder, catch better, run faster, and pad up our team mates in record time. Despite placing fifth and sixth on the ladder. the teams had a terrific season, both . *
