YEAR 11 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS CLAIRE BENDERS (11R) Year 11 Information Technology focused on the processes of design, development and evaluation in major client projects. We had to create an original website and logo for a client, as well as a short animation, all tasks that mimic ones performed by designers today. These tasks challenged us to go beyond our comfort zone and experience a one-on-one relationship with a client. This allowed us to learn a number of valuable life skills. ■

YEAR 10 MULTIMEDIA AND INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGIES (MIT) ELIZABETH CHAI (10E) This year in MIT we covered topics such as Photoshop, Illustrator, photography, animation and web design (HTML and CSS). We developed our knowledge by using Adobe programmes, such as Photoshop and Illustrator and learnt how to use Flash and Dreamweaver. I really enjoyed learning extra tips in Photoshop and Illustrator and making graphics that looked great. I learnt a lot about how to take pictures professionally and expertly with photography techniques. We also had the opportunity to use a DSLR cameras for our projects, which created very high quality images. These images were then used to create a digital composition under the theme of ‘Women of Influence’. These compositions were displayed at the MIT Showcase, along with the Year 9 t-shirts. In Term III, we learnt how to use Adobe Flash and I really liked learning the complex action script to make our animations flow. We then used these skills to create an animation that represented ‘Reflections’. Term IV was especially exciting as we learnt about HTML (Hyper-text Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), through Codeacademy which allowed us to utilise code to format webpages. There were two components to each task, theory and application. Learning the theory behind each tool and programme was particularly interesting and enabled us to have a deeper understanding of the application, or practical side. Year 10 MIT has provided me with broader real-world knowledge of the internet, specifically design, graphics, animations and website. ■

YEAR 12 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS (ITS) MACKENZIE GEEVES (12M)

Senior ITS has been exciting, challenging and stimulating in 2014. Throughout the year, students have been required to take risks, think creatively and use the skills that have matured during our junior years to create beautiful and practical products. The ‘design, develop, evaluate’ cycle has governed our projects for the past two years and helped us create a portfolio of work that we will be able to take with us to university and future careers. The skills and learning techniques we acquired from this subject has allowed each student to flourish and define their creative identity. ■
