OF COURSE CAITLIN ZHOU (10G)

SONNET 18 LUCY DAVIDSON (11G)

Of course I’ve just met you.

Shall I compare thee to a capital gain?

Of course we get along well.

Thou art more profitable and more efficient;

Of course you’re so charming and funny.

Taxes may reduce what doth remain,

Of course we are so alike.

And needs and wants may increase what’s spent;

Of course we’re good friends.

Some people’s love must fit a budget,

Of course I like talking to you every day.

And their equilibrium cannot be found,

Of course I enjoy being with you.

And their investments will fail to reach their target,

Of course I tell you all my secrets.

Of course I’m alright…

When poor economic indicators confound;

Of course you’re too short for me anyway.

But thy eternal interest shall not fade,

Of course you’re not my type.

Nor lose possession of that investment thou ow’st;

Of course I’m not in denial.

Nor shall inflation brag thou wander’st in his shade,

Of course you love her.

When thy profitability in real terms grow’st;

Of course she’s prettier than me.

So long as money can be spent or made,

Of course she’s so much better than I could ever be.

So lives my love and this gives life to trade.

Of course you two are just perfect together.

Of course I’m content just being your friend.

Of course I know nothing could ever happen between us.

[Note from Mr Woods: to appreciate the skill of this parody, read William Shakespeare’s original Sonnet 18]

Of course you would never think of me that way.

Of course it’s silly to hope.

Of course I fell for you.

Of course I don’t like you.

Of course. I love you.
