NETBALL CHRISTIE FIELDING (12L) AND KAITLIN WHITAKER (12G), CAPTAINS
Netball at BGGS is always a fun and successful season, and 2014 was no different. This year we saw 170 girls form seventeen teams in the competition. With such a high number of teams, it was no surprise Girls Grammar achieved some great results. The Senior C, 10B, 10C and 9C teams all ended their season as undefeated premiers, whilst another four teams finished in the top three for their division. This year, the Year 12 netball girls raised money for charity with the Bi-Grammar Tri-Series against Brisbane Grammar School, defeating their opposition in a convincing manner. The annual end of season celebration was a great success, reflecting the spirit and commitment of both players and parents to netball. Mrs Behl has been the coordinator of BGGS Netball for ten and a half years, and this season would not have run as smoothly as it did without her. Her passion and knowledge of the game is truly reflected in all of the girls who represented the School. This was Mrs Behl’s last season of netball at RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS SOPHIE BARENDSE (12H) AND CHLOE MACDONALD (12R), CAPTAINS Spurred on by the results of the Australian Commonwealth Games rhythmic gymnastics team, our Girls Grammar gymnasts were inspired and driven to perform to their highest potential this year. Our season began with an awe- inspiring ninety-six girls making the team. After a solid twelve weeks of hard work and dedication the girls faced an intensive two-day training camp during the June/July holidays. This camp included ballet classes and intensive strength conditioning, as well as the usual training routines. From Term III, the gymnastics calendar began to burst with practice competitions and gymnastics displays in the weeks leading up to the QGSSSA Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition
BGGS, so we would like to thank her for her commitment and wish her good luck with all her future endeavours. We feel very fortunate to have been the captains of such a wonderful and passionate group of girls. We have loved being your netball captains and seeing your improvement and progression not just individually, but also as a team has made our jobs even more enjoyable. We hope you enjoyed the season as much as we did. ■
held at Moreton Bay College on 8 August. The results were some of the most pleasing the School has seen in recent years. The A Grade teams achieved a fantastic third place, one of our best A Grade results in the past couple of years. Congratulations to the Open Pairs for being placed third, and to the Open Groups who achieved an amazing third and fourth place. Special mention must go to the Year 8 team that competed in the Open competition, placing third against schools whose teams included national gymnasts. Thank you to Ms Fukushima, our new coordinator this year, for her outstanding passion and organisational efforts. As an old girl, she portrayed the spirit of what it means to represent this incredible school! It has been an honour to captain a team of such confident, resilient and happy girls, and we will always treasure the memories we shared as the 2014 Brisbane Girls Grammar School Rhythmic Gymnastics Team. ■
