DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB BY ANNA RAFTERY (12O)

In its third year, the Digital Photography Club has become an integral part of the School. Co-ordinated by Ms Loye, the Club meets every week with members who have a range of photographic experience. During the meetings we have the opportunity to learn new photography skills, and refine old ones, as well as share and discuss our photos. This year the Club has actively been part of school life, taking photos at all sports carnivals, Blue Days and many other events such as Valentine’s Day, drama productions and Open Day. This has enabled students to apply the skills to a variety of environments, developing a diverse area of photographic capability. I hope that the School enjoys the photos as much as we enjoyed taking them!

The annual Go-Mobile competition was a success this year, with many entrants from both within and outside the Club showing a great deal of talent and ingenuity in using their mobile devices. Congratulations to those who were short listed, and to Junior Prize winner Cireen Khan (10W), Senior Prize winner Julia Shirley (11L) and to the overall People’s Choice winner Breeze Mathews (9M). ■

COMPOSERS CLUB AILSA TRAVES (11G)

This year, a group of about fifteen girls across all year levels were lucky enough to participate in the WotOpera programme as part of the School’s Composers Club. Essentially, we were given the task of writing an opera — a daunting idea at first! Over the course of five weeks, we created a story, wrote the libretto and eventually created the music with the resident composer, Peter Ouen. Our story was essentially a love story, but with twists of jealousy, intrigue and murder. We were lucky enough to perform our opera, 1954 , at the Judith Wright Centre at the end of the programme. Overall, it was an extremely valuable experience that we have all grown from and hope to participate in again at any opportunity. ■

SONGWRITER STUDIO LUCY CARR (11W)

This year, interested song writers have been meeting each Monday to work with Miss Jorgensen, our resident songwriting expert. I have developed skills in songwriting, lyric writing and using music technology like Garage Band. Songwriter Studio is a great opportunity for girls to improve their skills and develop a way of writing music with the help of Miss Jorgensen. ■
