THE LITTLE BROWN NIGGER-BOY.

The little brown nigger-boy ran by the river, The swirling, the twirling, the muddy-green river. A hot, lazy breeze set the tall reeds a-shiver, And the shadows in the watEl_r went all a-quiver And the little brown nigger-boy smiled. The little brown nigger-boy's black eyes gleamed, And the picaninny's chubby cheeks wide ly beamed, And he played in the sand, where the sunlight streamed, Till the red-brown earth like gold-dus t seemed And the little brown nigger-boy grinned . The little brown nigger-boy fetched some wood From a tree, which he climbed as well as he could, And some bark and leaves, and then he stood And sailed his boat on the brink of the flood. And the little brown nigger-boy laughed. A bubble popped, and a ripped lapped, A scaly green body slid, in shadows wrapped, Two watery eyes, two sharp jaws snapped. C-G-Crunch ! And the little brown n igger-boy wasn't ! !
