DEATH

The Best Wishes and Congratulations of the O.G.A. are extended to the following. ENGAGEMENTS :

It is with regret that we have to report the death of the late Dr. Eleanor Elizabeth Bourne , M.B., Ch.M., D.P.H After topping the Scholarship list at the age of eleven, she entered the Brisbane Girls' Grammar School, from which she won an Extension Scholarship awarded by the Trustees . She passed both Junior and Senior Public Examinations with distinction, winning Medals in Botany and Ancient History in the Senior in 1896, gaining also the Grahame Gold Medal , the John West Gold Medal and the Women 's College Bur - sary . She was the first girl from Queensland to win an Exhibition to Sydney Univers ity, where she later took her degree in Medicine. Dr . Bourne w2s a Foundation Member of the Old Girls ' Assocation and was one of the first women doctors appointed to the Brisbane General Hospital . She distinguished herself in her profession and her name will be remembered for many years to come . She was always proud that her initial scholastic success was made possible by the Queensland Gov- ernment's system of free education and grateful for the oppo rtunities so provided by the Government and the Gram - mar School . She had been in ill health for some time but had always kept in touch with the Old Girls' Association. \Ale extend to her relatives our deepest sympa thy. GENERAL INFORMATION The Annual General Meeting wi ll be held 1n the School Hall on Friday, 7th February 1958 at 7.45 p.m. All girls leaving School are cordially invited to attend and join the Association. In conclusion , the O.G.A. wis hes to thank Miss Crooks, Miss Macmillan, Mistresses , Staff and .the Parents ' and Friends ' Association for their help and co-operation during the yea r and extends to them the Compliments of the Season and Best Wishes for Happy Holidays.
