Code of Behaviour

Code of behaviour for students

The library offers assistance and instruction to all users (individually and in groups) in the location, acquisition, evaluation, and purposeful use of information and resources. Students will respect the rights of all users and work quietly at all times. The proximity of library seating and the open areas means that talking must be kept at a very low level. During class time, students are under the specific supervision of their teachers. If individual or small groups of students come to the library from classes, they must bring written notification from their teacher stating the names of the students and the reason for the unsupervised library visit. There are absolutely silent rooms [L2.05 and L3.05] available outside of class times. Students should bring into the library only the specific equipment required for the work to be undertaken. No food or drink [except for water] is to be consumed in the library at any time . Mobile phones must be on silent . Individual students may use the phones with headphones to play audio files out of class time but these devices must not have the volume loud enough to be heard by other users. Users must always maintain the good order of the library spaces. Students who wish to sit and work together must sit at appropriate tables without moving furniture, and chairs should be pushed in when leaving. Except for circulation desk material which should be returned to library staff, students are NOT expected to re- shelve items. Books should be placed neatly on the subject specific and labelled trolleys, spine uppermost with the spine label to the outer edge of the trolley. There are also “book drop” tables near the lift on each level. There is also a section of the circulation desk [at the lift end] where unborrowed resources may be placed for library staff to put on subject trolleys. Students have open access to the shelves but neatness of these will always be maintained. For safety and security reasons, no item is to be left outside the library at any time . All items brought into the library must be placed on or under tables or benches. No school bags are to be brought into the library before 3.10pm. Different resources may be borrowed for different periods of time. Borrowers are asked to return resources on or before the due date via the outside returns chute or to the circulation desk. The only students permitted to access the lift are those with lift passes or fobs. Health Centre staff issue this permission . Girls with fobs do not require staff to access the lift for them. Girls with passes must ask a library or other staff member to access the lift. The only person to use the lift is the particular girl with permission. If the student is so incapacitated that she cannot carry her laptop etc., one additional person may assist her.
