Study Tours L’ACADÉMIE DE PARIS
As for international relations, our teacher took us to museums, compared maps, made us consider pieces of history we hadn’t thought about before and, as a class, the five of us were always discussing the most interesting aspects and opinions. When classes finished for the day, it was our time to get to know Paris. There were activities organised on a daily basis including visits to art galleries, macaroon tasting and boat rides to explore one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I was never hungry, well you can’t really be in Paris with all its croissants and salade de chèvre chaud, my personal favourite. With all my heart, I can honestly recommend this experience. It was an adventure that has not only inspired me, but taught me more than I could ever imagine and created some of the strongest friendships I could ever hope for. EMILIA PALKA (11H)
Oxbridge in Paris, ‘L’Académie de Paris’ was truly an experience of a lifetime. I will never forget the life lessons, friends, and skills I learned on this academic program. In Paris I chose to study ‘The Law and Human Rights’ as my major course and ‘International Relations’ as my minor course. The classes were much smaller than usual which allowed for a greater depth and directed approach to learning. In both my courses, I was constantly out beyond the boundaries of the classroom. Forming strong friendships with the two other girls in my major class, our teacher of French nationality took us to the court, explained various articles and challenged us in every way. Towards the end of the program we studied a past case and performed a ‘mock trial’ in a court room.
UNIVERSITY OF ST ANDREWS
art galleries and the famous St Andrews Golf Course. Each evening there were guest speakers and organised activities, for example, beach soccer, celtic dancing, trivia nights and yoga were among some of the many offered. There were many excursions including a visit to the Ceres Highland Games — traditional Scottish Games that have been held in the town of Ceres since the year 1314. It was undoubtedly an amazing and life-changing experience and many lifelong friendships have been formed. We would thoroughly recommend the University of St Andrews as an Oxbridge Programme destination. GRACE FISHER (11L), HELENA GANDHI (11O) AND HARRIET REINHOLD (11L)
Over the June/July holidays, three Year 11 girls – Helena Gandhi (11O), Grace Fischer (11L) and Harriet Reinhold (11L) – were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to spend a month living and studying abroad at the historic 600-year-old University of St Andrews in Scotland as part of this year’s Oxbridge Academic Programme. Along with other other students hailing from eight countries and five continents around the globe, we — a group of sixty — resided in St Salvator’s Hall (once the home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Catherine). While there were a plethora of subjects, we chose to major in medicine with minors in maths, engineering and photography respectively. Outside of lectures and with eighteen hours of sunlight a day, we had time to explore the town, visit local restaurants, book stores,
