GRAMMAR ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION ORGANISATION (GECO)

The Grammar Environmental and Conservation Organisation (GECO) has been heavily focused on recycling this year, with activities such as a Biome raffle to raise awareness about the benefits of recycling and to support the Queensland Conservation Council in their upcoming projects. We have also had three extremely successful Grammar Goes Green events throughout the year which were each supported with eager green thumbs. The Grammar Environmental and Conservation Organisation not only allows for girls from all Year levels to interact with each other, but also enables Grammar girls to experience the joy of giving back to the wider community. Grammar Goes Green is an extremely rewarding event as each time the students return to establish more plants we can see the growth of previous efforts and how this activity has greatly benefitted Rangakarra. Activities such as these are not only exciting and allow for social interactions beyond the school grounds, but also create homes for our local wildlife. Chloe and I both hope that the Grammar Goes Green tradition continues to be GREAT GREAT GREAT! MR GIDEON HUPPERT

SAVE THE CHILDREN

Save the Children was founded in 1991 and is the world’s foremost independent charity for children. Through their projects, the organisation aims to ensure all children get a healthy start to life which they deserve, regardless of gender, race, country of origin or religious beliefs. Save the Children ensures protection, basic access to nutrition, primary healthcare and basic education. Our School service club for Save the Children this year raised a total of $1147. Our first fundraising activity was an Easter egg raffle, followed by a very successful bake stall, our Open Day stall and selling lolly bags before QCS. Our Easter egg raffle was very successful selling 100 raffle tickets. Our bake stall and lolly bags which were sold were a sell-out. Our Open Day stall offered potential new members of our School the opportunity to find out more about Save the Children and the activities we do to help children in need. The Open Day stall was a great success through our duck game and our lolly jar competition. ANISA JAFFAR (12W) AND ALICIA SINGH (12W) 2017 CO-LEADERS, SAVE THE CHILDREN
