Leadership
YEAR 7 PREFECT This year my fellow Year 7 prefects and I were provided with the rewarding opportunity of assisting the Year 7 students to transition from their primary school education to secondary school at Girls Grammar. Through their participation in the Jump Rope for Heart and planting their Learning Trees at Rangakarra, to drawing out their competitive side in the Interhouse Volleyball competition, these girls have had a busy and fun-filled year. As prefects, we have thoroughly enjoyed sharing these moments with them. It has been a great pleasure to watch these girls mature as they grow into Grammar girls and it is an experience I am sure each of us will treasure for ever. EMMA GILES (12B), BEANLAND HOUSE YEAR 7 PREFECT 2017 YEAR 8 PREFECT Both of us can agree that having the opportunity to be a House Prefect this year has been an enriching and enjoyable experience. We joined the Year 8 girls two to three times a week throughout 2017, to encourage and support them through their studies and their journey as a Grammar girl. These mornings were filled with baked goods, lollies, ‘Just Dance’ competitions, celebrity quizzes and, of course, a lot of laughter. Our time spent with the Year 8s has helped to strengthen our relationships with girls from other grades during our final year at Brisbane Girls Grammar School. The guidance of Woolcock’s Year 8 House Group teacher, Mrs Swanston, proved invaluable and helped us strive to be the best prefects we could be. YEAR 9 PREFECT
Our position as Year 9 Prefects this year has helped to make our final year in the sisterhood of Brisbane Girls Grammar School special and meaningful. While we both embraced the bonds held within each cohort prior to this year, being a prefect allowed us both to truly appreciate the sisterhood in our school, as we had more enthusiastic, familiar faces amongst the crowds. Being a role model for these girls was amazing, as it gave us a chance to develop our leadership skills while learning what was unique and special about every girl. Whether it was as mentor, a leader or a friend, the opportunity to meet the girls and watch them become more mature individuals was an incredible experience. BGGS AMBASSADORS
One of our personal favorite events is the Year 7 interviews. When we meet the Year 6 girls (Year 7 next year), we see a lot of nervous, excited and curious faces. They are hesitant to speak at first but when we tell them that they are now a part of a big family full of welcoming sisters and supporters, they realise they have nothing to be afraid of. As part of the ambassadors group, we have engaged with a number of staff members including the wonderful staff from the Communications and Engagement Team. It has been very interesting to meet and work with these members of staff and we are very grateful for their help and guidance. We are so proud to be representing our School and becoming an ambassador was one of the most rewarding choices we have made in our high school career so far. EMILY BOWDEN (10M) AND KATIE BOWDEN (8M)
Being a Brisbane Girls Grammar School Ambassador is a wonderful and humbling experience that both of us thoroughly enjoyed this year. As an ambassador, you are the first taste of what a Grammar girl is to interested parents, the public, and current staff, parents and girls. We have helped with many different events this year including the Year 7-9 Seminar, the Year 7 interviews, Grammar Women events and House Afternoon Teas.
