Music CATHEDRAL CONCERT

One of the Term II highlights for the Instrumental Music Faculty was the Cathedral Concert which was held in the brilliant acoustic surrounds of the Cathedral of St Stephen in Brisbane’s central business district. Grammar girls from Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Singers, Grammar Singers, Symphonic Winds and Chorale all performed beautifully throughout the night. The engaging repertoire resonated throughout the cathedral and all the girls involved had a truly amazing experience. Their effort, dedication and passion for their craft, whether it be vocal or instrumental, was reflected in their spectacular performances. Special congratulations must go to all the soloists who displayed an outstanding level of skill and dedication to their instrument: you all performed exceptionally. Thanks must also go to the music staff who worked extremely long and arduous hours to present a truly beautiful and enjoyable concert for all. LANA TROUT (11B)

AUSTRALIAN COMBINED SCHOOLS MUSIC FESTIVAL In Term II, I was lucky enough to be among a few girls who got the chance to go to Canberra for the Australian Combined Schools Music Festival. We travelled down on a Wednesday and visited the Australian War Memorial in the afternoon before reaching Canberra Grammar School, who were hosting the event. I was in the Band, and other girls joined the Orchestra and Choir. The Thursday and Friday were filled with hours of rehearsal where we all learned so much from the renowned musicians who had come to conduct us. Friday evening we went to Questacon and had the chance to relive the memories made during our Grade 7 Canberra trips. On Saturday we journeyed to Parliament House for a practice run of the concert, which was held in the Great Hall. That night all our hard work came to fruition, with an amazing concert that demonstrated the incredible talents and dedication of the students. The experience was a once-in- a-lifetime one and I met so many wonderful people and learnt valuable skills throughout the trip. CAITLIN TROUT (12B)
