DEVELOPMENT: THE GIFT OF GIVING

AUTHOR Ms Lea Walker, Director of Development and Alumni

THE LONGSTANDING TRADITION OF PHILANTHROPY at Brisbane Girls Grammar School continued during 2013, with the School grateful to receive $467,745 in gifts from 240 donors. Special mention must be made of the class of 2013 who established the ‘2013 Alumni Bursary Fund’ with $6,794 — a great example of grassroots giving that will flourish over time and provide a selection of girls with the opportunity to receive a Girls Grammar education, for whom it would otherwise not be possible. We value the generous support provided and appreciate that our community’s help is forthcoming, in line with their unique individual situations. Philanthropy should be a happy, transparent and rewarding experience for everyone involved. Therefore, in line with the strategic direction of Brisbane Girls Grammar, the Development and Alumni Department (refer article page 9) was established last year to strengthen community engagement and nurture philanthropic programmes.

Our $1m+ Building a Tree of Learning Capital Campaign was launched in October 2013. As this edition of the Gazette goes to print, gifts and pledges currently total $907,592 from 151 donors. Whether gifts are directed towards our building, library or bursary funds, one of our two Australian Sports Foundation projects, or via the Australian Independent Schools USA Foundation, every gift makes a difference in the lives of Grammar girls, and all gifts are tax deductible. Thank you for giving to Brisbane Girls Grammar School — it is wonderful to start to receive the level of financial support that boys’ schools have enjoyed for generations. If you would like to discuss development opportunities please contact Ms Lea Walker Director of Development and Alumni (07) 3332 1380 or lwalker@bggs.qld.ed.au
